Friday. Wildflowers in southern Oregon, like the fruit blos
soms, seemed to burst into bloom with the recent period of
warm weather. According to some wildflower "experts,"
the red bells are weeks ahead of normal.
Three Vehicles Involved in Crash
Central Point - No injuries
resulted from an auto acci
dent about 8:35 a. m. today
involving a school bus, a log
ging truck and a passenger
car, all southbound at High
way 99 and Hazel st., Central
Point police reported.
Police said that the bus op
erated by Henry Paulson,
Gold Hill, had slowed to make
a turn from the left turn
lane. An unidentified driver
stopped in the lane next to
tht bus. Then, Ernest E. Pey
ton, Gold Hill, in another car,
braked to avoid hitting the
topped vehicle, it was report
ed. However, the left rear
fender of the Peyton car
struck the rear bumper of
the school bus.

operating the logging truck,
belonging to- Elmer Milton,
Rogue River, in the right lane,
tried to stop to prevent the
collision, but the Peyton car
bounced off the school bus
and under the rear wheels of
the loaded truck. -
There was minor damage to
the bus but none to the log
ging truck. The Peyton car
was considerably damaged,
police said. '

Hatfield Said to
Have Bill Ready
Portland (UPD Dean Ellis,
chairman of Oregon's Tax
commission, says Gov. Mark
Hatfield will propose a "net
receipts" income tax bill to
the next Legislature as a key
to his program.
Ellis said the measure
would be similar to but not
exactly the same bill which
failed to pass last year.
He told the Portland Presi
dents council the plan looks to
a broadening of the base but
no overall increase in mone
tary return from the. net re
ceipts plan. However, rates
could be adjusted, he said, if
additional revenue became
necessary.
The measure, Ellis said,
would provide a flat one per
cent levy against , the first
$2,000 of net income,, two per
cent from $2,000 to $4,000,
three per cent form $4,000 to
$6,000, four per cent from
$6,000 to $8,000, five per cent
from $8,000 to $15,000 and 6
per cent above $15,000.
He said that for salaried
persons the gross income in
most cases would be the net
income. On this basis, a sal
ary of $10,000 would result in
an income tax of about $300.
Ellis said the plan would
do everything a sales tax
would do.

its new electric rate schedule.
The PUC recently allowed
PP&L and Portland General
Electric part of a requested
rate hike. PGE filed its new
schedule earlier. The filing
means the increase can go into
effect at once.
