Fire Department
Called Out 62
Times in Month
The Medford fire depart
ment responded to 62 alarms
during Ferbruary, and the
rural fire district to six, ac
cording to Fire Chief Gordon
Barker'! monthly report.
Of the 62 alarms in the city,
the greatest number 26 were
for dwelling fires, of which
15 were flue and chimney
fires, five were stoves or fur
nace fires and four were elec
tric wiring or appliance fires.
The city department also
responded to 10 grass and
trash fires, three vehicle fires,
one bomb scare and one false
alarm.
City fire fighting equipment
spent a total of 35 hours and
45 minutes in the field on
alarms during February. A
total of 78 hours of drill were
conducted at stations last
month and all paid and vol
unteer firemen completed the
annual refresher course in
first aid, the report stated.
Rural District Calls
The rural district respond
ed to three house alarms, all
flue fires, one grass fire and
two false alarms. Rural equip
ment spent 2 hours and 41
minutes on alarms.
Barker's report said the
mutual aid plan was again
used to advantage when fire
broke out in a meat storage
and locker plant in Jackson
ville. One pumper and a four
man company was dispatched
to the fire from Medford, he
said.
The fire marshal made 62
Inspections during February,
20 of them in business occu
pancies, and issued 92 orders
or recommendations for the
removal of fire hazards. A
total of 97 fire hazards were
removed and 322 fire permits
Issued, the report said.
