Mrs. 'Emma Perkins, 23 Mistletoe street, celebrated her
85th birthday February 28. Mrs. Perkins, a native of Iowa,
came to Medford in 1926.

birthday February 28 of Mrs.
Emma Perkins, 23 Mistletoe
street.
She was honored at a din
ner given last Thursday by
Mrs. Helen Hartman and Mrs.
Lillian Rheinsburg, and at
another dinner given Sunday
by Mr. and Mrs. John Thanos.
Monday, February 29, Mrs.
Perkins was a dinner guest of
the Rev. and Mrs. D. E. Mil
lard at the Town House came.
She also received gifts, cards
and letters in observance of
her birthday.
Mrs. Perkins has lived in
Medford since 1926. She was
born in Taylor county, Iowa.

A survey conducted for the
Noreen Beauty Institute show
ed that 65 per cent of the na
tion's women, ranging from
16 to the 60's, would change
their hair color if they had a
choice. Surprisingly, most
women did not dream of be
ing blondes. They voted for a
medium shade that would
lend itself to auburn high
lights, blonde flecks or red
dish tones.

sauce and sprinkle with rose

with burgundy wine. Sprinkle

Oak Grove PTA Marks Founding
- Oak Grove Parent-Teacher
association observed Founders
day when the unit met last
Thursday afternoon.
Several past presidents of
the association were intro
duced by Mrs. Clayton Char
ley, program chairman. In
cluded were Mrs. Ina Huson
who presided during 1913;
Mrs. Joe Thornton, 1924; Mrs.
Walter Wilson, 1937-38; Mrs.
Clara Shores, 1938-39; .Mrs.
William Knips, 1946-48; Mrs.
Hazel Wright, 1951-52; Mrs.
L. P. Crocker,' 1952-54; and
Mrs. Charles Ward, 1956-58.
Mrs. Roger Westerf ield,
hospitality chairman, had pre
pared clever name tags, and
also presented each past pres
ident a corsage.
Mrs. Charley read an inter
esting history of the Oak
Grove school and PTA, 're
calling the first school was
built in 1888 and the first por
tion of the present building in
1910. Mrs. Douglas Lamb,
president, gave a brief history
of the national and state PTA
associations, pointing out the
first Oak Grove PTA was or
ganized in 1913 and was
named "First Workers." -
Robert Phillips, principal,
asked the invocation which
was followed by the flag sa
lute. Mrs. Grace Kirtley's
third grade won the room
count.
Jim Hennebeck, safety
chairman, reported on a re
cent meeting of the safety
council. Mrs. Crocker spoke
on the need for a part-time
teacher at the Jackson county
Juvenile. Detention home..
Mrs. George Bryant pre
sented the revised by-laws,
which were approved, and
will be submitted to the Ore
gon Congress of Parents and
Teachers for acceptance.
A nominating committee
was elected, composed of Mrs.
Truett Martin, Mrs. Lee Bray
and Mr. Phillips. They will re
port at the March meeting at
which time election of offi
cers will be held. ;
Mothers of children in the
third grade were in charge of
the silver tea, under the direc
tion of Mrs. Wallace Brill.
Preceding the meeting, stu
dents in the second and third
grades presented a program
in the gymnasium. The second
grades had a choral reading
entitled "Little Red Hen," two
rhythm dances and several
songs with student panto
mimes and a choral group.
The third grade presented
readings, songs and choral
readings in honor of Abraham

- The Feb. 27 meeting of the
Howard Bake 'n Stitchers 4-H
club was called to order by
Salli Jo Eaton, president. Roll
was called. Two members
were not present. The minutes
were read. -
We read about rice, and
Ann Pitts demonstrated how
to steam rice and make rice
delite. We have a . new mem
ber in the club. Her name is
Linda Rosenberger. i

The Cracker Jacks 4-H club
of St. Mary's fifth grade met
Feb. 27 at the school annex.
Correct methods of measur
ing solids and liquids were
demonstrated by our leader,
Mrs. Warren Loffer.
Each member had a chance
to measure something.
New games were taught to
us by Lynda F a r f a n, and
Lynn Rickm a n furnished
treats.
