Letters to the Editor must bear the name and address of the writer,
although under certain circumstances the use of a pen name or. initial
for publication is permissible. The Mail Tribune reserves the right to

Hay Visitor
To the Editor: Yesterday
we were gone from home a
few hours and when we re
turned we found we had visit
ors: A very small boy and
three dogs..
The boy had opened the
chicken yard gate and the
dogs played havoc with our
chickens. We had to kill some
and we could only use one of
them to eat.
Another pair of dogs have
been killing a neighbor's
ducks.
It looks like there are more
dogs in the neighborhood than
last year.
Seems as though there
could be some way other than
having them killed; I mean, in
addition to having unwanted
dogs killed. It just doesn't
curb the reproduction fast
' enough. I know very well that
people get attached to their
pets.
We have a county doctor,
why not a county veterina
rian, so that low income peo
ple can have their pets al
tered; both male and female,
It would make a more lasting
job of it.
There aren't many people
who keep their dogs up, in
spite of the law.
Suburban'- people like to
keep their gardens intact, the
same as city folks like their
flowers, so that a law should
be fo rthem, also.

Not in Accord
To the Editor: On Feb. 18,
In a letter in Communications,
the statement was made "God
.. nrt r t..ki.ii
tiuacu Canaan lui juuzixiig
upon his father Noah's naked
ness." This quote is not strict
ly in accord with the story in
Genesis, IX, 19-26.
As the Bible states it, Noah
was asleep in his tent, drunk
and naked, when Ham, Noah's
son, looked at Noah s naked
ness. Upon awakening, Noah
cursed Canann, Ham's son or
Noah's grandson. Just why he
cursed Canaan .when Ham
was the offender is not ex
plained. Two possible expla
nations occur: It would hurt
Ham more to have his son
cursed them himself, or Noah
was still befuddled when he

Recreation Meed
To the Editor: There's some
thing lacking in the way of
recreation in Medford. Know
what it is? A roller-skating
rink!
One of the cleanest, most
healthful forms of recreation,
and if we want it for our
youngsters, we have to drive
to Ashland or Grants Pass to
use their roller-rinks. We
keep reading and hearing
every once in a while that
there will be one built in or
near Medford but so far, guess
someones too much of a
"cheap skate," excuse the
pun, to build one.
How about our church
groups and PTA's putting on
a little letter-writing cam
paign and see if we can't have
a Medford roller-skating rink
before our youngsters are too
old to enjoy it.

More on Driving
To the Editor: I would like
to thank these wonderful
women for answering my let
ter, and I'm just sorry
haven't seen many of your
good drivers. I'm also sorry
that you got the impression
that I don't think their are
any good women drivers, be
cause I think their are some
fine women drivers.
But on the most part the
women driver is not a good
enough driver to go one week
without a close call or an ac
cident. As for the woman who
said her husband taught her
to drive, this is the reason
you are one of the exceptions
to the average women driver.
Don't get the idea I'm back
ing down because I still don't
think women can think fast
enough or know how to han
dle a car safely enough to
drive as often as they do.
As for more men having
accidents, it's only natural
since more men drive, the
family car and leave the
woman at home where she
should be. As for one lady's
examples of her quick re
flexes saving her from an ac
cident, it seems to me that
with three close calls that
maybe it was her and not
the men.

Interested in Letters
To the Editor: I was inter
ested and pleased to see in
your communications the let
ters from the Medford Eng
lish class. I agree there's a
lot of things discussed in these
letters that aren't worth the
reading. I have read the let
ters to the editor for eight
years, now I'm blowing a
fuse.
I was delighted to read all
about the Student Govern
ment Day election in Med
ford, so naturally 1 was inter
ested to see what was happen
ing in the school I pay taxes
to.
I managed to get a copy
of the Phoenix school paper
and this (in part) is what I
read: "Eight to participate in
Elk's Government Day Ac
tivities." One of the para
graphs reads as follows: From
this list of candidates the
faculty will appoint the offi
cers, etc., etc.
What a dirty jip. I thought
this was to teach our chil
dren the American way of
life.
Is this Communistic? What
do you Medford English stu
dents think?
Why don't you elected stu
dents watch and see who was
appointed?
Why don't our county su
perintendent of schools pay
a little more attention to
Jackson county schools and
a little less to Russia's?

Necessity of War
To the Editor: Congratula
tions to Marie Bosworth for
an excellent article on "The
Arms Race." Thousands of us
average citizens are wonder
ing if any war was really ne
cessary. Plain logic tells us
that the basic cause of all
wars was human lust for
power, for commerce, and
monetary wealth.
Now just who is guilty of
practicing these lusts? Has it
been the common people of
the nations involved, or has it
been the leaders who have
been placing monetary gain
above our human welfare?
Does the average, person re
member when Charles Lind
berg made his report to this
nation after a tour of Europe,
prior to World War II? Lind
berg gave this sound and sin
cere advice to us: "Make your
own country strong, and stay
out of Europe's quarrels."
What, then, happened? The
man was ridiculed, branded
as a pacifist, and denounced
by written and oral word
until "he seemed almost to be
a traitor! Why? Perhaps Lind-
berg was right. We would
have been far better off to fol
low his advice.
It's easy to see why any
mother, no matter what color
her skin may be, is against the
things that lead up to war be
tween nations. Do the young
men who are paid to commit
wholesale murder, to destroy,
and, then are made heroes
afterwards, ever wonder why
a civilian can" get the gas
chamber for a crime that is
small in comparison to war
crimes? Can you blame the
thoughtful young man who
has been taught from child
hood not to hate people for
the crimes they may indulge
in (rather to despise the evils
that lead up to those crimes)
for being confused when he is
forced into the maelstrom of
a war machine that sucks
youth in and teaches it that
murder is heroic?
Is it not time for us, -the
masses of America if you
please, to turn the search-
light on ourselves to ask
ourselves "What am I doing
to eradicate those evils that
lead up to war between na
tions?" Are we not guilty of
the minor crimes of lethargy,
of indifference to our local,
state and federal government
functions?
Then we are, by placing the
pursuits of pleasure and ma
terial things above our civic
responsibilities, and above
our regard for our fellow
man, guilty of aiding (in an
indirect way) those forces of
evil that would plunge our
nation into World War III.
It's time for some good old
fashioned "brass tacks"
thinking to emerge from the
so called "masses."

I Marvelous Age '
To the Editor: First of all
I wish to thank the editorial
staff of this paper for their
broad views and patience
with some of us letter writers.
How thankful we should be
to live in a free country
where we have the freedoms
we so much prize and enjoy.
This fact should make us real
ize that caution must be ex
ercised, so that we will not
soon lose this precious heri
tage. Many events are transpir
ing all around us that make
a thinking person realize that
we are indeed living in a
marvelous age. With the rapid
increase of knowledge in lines
of communication, medicine
and other subjects well over
our heads, we can't hardly
keep up.
Yet, on the other hand, we
find conditions that we can
hardly class as "all is well".
With all of the rapid ' scien
tific advances, we find our
selves living in a age of un
rest, fear, worry and untold
human misery.
While we sat down to a
full meal and then drove to
work in a comfortable car,
somewhere others were suf
fering. All of our efforts to
better ourselves are to be
commended, but in spite of it
all, something is lacking.
Could it be that we have
failed to grasp .the real mean
ing of life?
Please don't get me wrong.
I am a long ways from being
perfect. Only one person has
ever lived on this earth who
came up to this standard. It
is gratifying to know that
On Church Disunity
To the Editor: In answer
to "Why disunity in the
Church today", I would like
to submit the following:
Until saints today can see the
distinctive ministry of Paul
the Apostle to the Gentiles
(Rohans 11:13), that this is the
dispensation of Grace (Ephe
sians 3:1-4) given to the Apos
tle Paul by revelation (Gala
tians 1:11,12) from the Glori
fied Risen Saviour (Acts 9:5;
II Corinthians 12:1-7); until
they can see the difference
between "That which was
prophesied from the begin
ning of the world (Luke 1:68
70; Acts 3:22-26) and "that
which was hid, kept secret,
since the beginning of the
world" (Romans 16:25,26;
Ephesians 3:5-9); until they
are followers of Paul (I Co
rinthians 1:17) as He was of
Christ (I Corinthians 11:1),
and is the pattern for them
that believe from now on (I
Timothy 1:16), that' the Lord
revealed to Paul that He was
setting aside the nation Israel
(Romans 11) temporarily, and
now choosing out of all na
tions a people for His Name,
His body, His church (I Co
rinthians 12:12,13; Ephesians
5:30), a heavenly organism,
not an earthly organization.
Not until Paul do we hear
the blood of Christ preached
for remission of sins (Romans
5:9), by grace are ye saved
through faith (Ephesians
2:8,9), justified by grace (Ro
mans 5:1,2), that we are to
know Christ no more after
the flesh (11 Corinthians 5:16)
but to live for Him that died
and rose again (II Corinthi
ans 5:15).
Until the seven-fold minis
try of the Holy Spirit given
in Ephesians 4:1-7 is followed,
including the one baptism (I
Corinthians 12:13), and the
commission given to Paul for
the Body of Christ (II Corin
thians 5:14-21) is carried out,
until they see that all scrip
ture is . given by inspiration
of God and is profitable (II
Timothy 3:16,17), but that
only Paul's epistles are exclu
sively written to and about
the Body of Christ, until they
study . . . rightly dividing
the Word of Truth (II Timo
thy 2:15)-until these truths
are taught and proclaimed,
there will be disunity in the
church.

Against County Manager
To the Editor: "The Eight
Headed Monster": Do we
want an elective Democratic
county government, or do we
want a one man controlled
government governed only by
"policy" which is approved
by an elected council who
acts for the people without
compensation for their time
and effort?
Could a council selected
from the rank and file of bur
citizens afford to give the
time and effort to the job?
No doubt but that the only
ones who would seek election
for such a position would be
those who need not worry
about-their source of income
which, in effect, would dny
the people a true choice of
representation.
Our county commissioners
would be replaced by men
chosen by a "manager" with
salary who in turn may not
be interested in the county
as a whole but only favored
interests - district representa
tion would be a thing of the
past. Without compensation is
there one of the present com
missioners that would seek
election for county council?
Manager form of govern
ment is a one-man dictatorial
form of government; this
paper advocates "centralized
government" as being more
efficient.
Our present county govern
ment leaves much to be de
sired, and can stand reorgan
ization; but, if it comes to
choosing between a dictator
or a fully elected democratic
form we had better keep
what we have. The people
would still retain the right
to replace the head of gov
ernment by vote of the peo
ple. Every citizen whether
rich or poor should be able
to seek office and without
hardship. The vote ox the peo
ple is worth something; if that
what they vote for is not
worth being compensated, the
vote means nothing. It invites
those to office that have only
an ax to grind.
If the voters will think
this all out for themselves, I
am sure that it will be re-
