Jackson B
Opens Wednesday
Jackson County B league
will determine its district
playoff representative this
week with a two or three
game tourney while the
Rogue league's final slate of
games may place the District
6 A-2 southern division situa
tion in a muddle.
County B teams vie start
ing Wednesday at Eagle Point
high gym and the winner of
the runoff will meet the vic
tor of the Klamath - Jake
county tourney for the Dis
trict 5B crown.
Prospect and Butte Falls
mix in the 7 p.m. Wednesday
game with St. Mary's and Tal
ent meeting in the second tus
sles. Winners will clash on
Thursday evening after a con
solation scuffle.
If the victor in the two
night series is not St. Mary's,
that team must meet the Cru
saders on Saturday. The Med
Jord parochial club rates this
second chance as regular sea
son Jackson B league champ.
Could Be 4-Way Tie
Phoenix, Eagle Point and
Glendale each have a chance
for an unshared Rogue league
diadem but the race could
end in a two or four-way tie,
with IV also in the running
for a four-knot deadlock.
Games ending the regular
loop schedule are Illinois Val
ley at Eagle Point and Glen
dale at Phoenix on Friday
and Eagle Point at Glendale
on Saturday. A four -way
deadlock would come about
if Illinois Valley beats Eagle
Point, Glendale tops Phoenix
and Eagle Point trims Glen-

"near revolution" among the

With added strife among

This latest battle plaguing

when East German officials

Meanwhile, South Korea

Said Rumor
By United Press International
Athletic Directors Spec
Keene of Oregon State and
Leo Harris of Oregon today
labeled as "another rumor"
a report that members of the
Skyline and Border confer
ences were thinking about a
new league which would in
clude Northwest members of
the old Pacific Coast confer
ence. Keene said he has stated on
numerous occasion that there
is an advantage to belonging
to a conference but that there
was nothing definite in the
wind. He did say he had met
on several occasions with dif
ferent individuals on an in
formal basis and talked about
the possibility of a new con
ference.
Harris said "we are defin
itely interested in improving
ourselves, by joining an or
ganized athletic conference."
But he said he hadn't been
contacted at any time with a
formal application to such a
group.
The report came out of Salt
Lake City where the Skyline
Conference has not yet picked
a new commissioner.

Medford high has only one
Southern Oregon conference
tangle this week but it is
mighty important to the Tor
nado. The Big Breeze goes to
Klamath. Falls on Saturday
night and can tuck away the
championship by licking the
Pelicans.
In other games in the big
school circuit Klamath will
be at Grants Pass and Crater
at Ashland on Friday and
Crater at Grants Pass on Sat
urday. Both Medford Junior highs
had basketball engagements
this afternoon at seventh,
eighth and ninth grade levels.
Hedrick was at North Grants

Friday,
his West German teammates
Hanspeter Lanig, Willi
Bogner and Ludwig Leitner
all were rated ahead of the
East German downhill skiers
in the FIS ratings announced
Sunday.
Charge "Sell out"
The East Germans contend
ed that one of their downhill
skiers, Eberhard Riedel,
should be selected ahead of
Wagnerberger although Wag
nerberger was ranked 17th
while Riedel was ranked
20th.
The West Germans charged
by intimation that West Ger
man lawyer Herbert Kunze,
chief of the overall German
team, had "sold out" to the
Communists.
The dispute was resolved,
on the surface at least, with
Riedel put on the German
team instead of Wagner
berger. While the East-West Ger
man dispute did not hamper
the athletes here from 30 oth
er countries, the downhill ski
course and a blazing sun did.
The course was taking a
heavy toll in injuries. -Battista
Pordon of Italy and Luis

Monday and will be unable to
compete in the games. Felipe

National Boxing association,
which vacated Archie Moore's

similar action today against
welterweight champion Don

official proof by Friday that
he's fit to fight.
Anthony Maceroni, presi

that:
-The NBA had withdrawn
title recognition from 46-year
old Moore because of his fail

crown within the prescribed
six months, and a tourney
would be arranged March 5
to determine his successor.

from the California commis

against Cuban Benny Kid

May 20 or 27.
The New York State Ath

a member of the NBA, will
continue to recognize Moore
as champion, Chairman Mel

New York. He said no official
challenge was on file with the
commission and that Moore "is
a fighter of good, repute and

Maceroni stressed that the
NBA Executive committee had
warned Moore on Dec. 12 he

Feb. 12, Moore's six months
had elapsed since his last de
