Kapers Director
Again Will Be
Hollywood Man
Carl Hawley, musician, band
leader and dancer, will direct
the Kiwanis Kapers again
with performances scheduled
Feb. 24, 25, 26 and 27, the
Medford Kiwanis club has an
nounced. Hawley is well-known in
Medford by his past work
with the Kapers.
The Kapers is a Rogers Pro
ductions, and is one of the
many events in the show busi
ness life of Hawley. His thea
trical background started
with Little Theater work in
San Antonio, Tex., where
Hawley nearly followed his
father's career in journalism.
Following his Little Theater
experience hs traveled to Hol
lywood where he organized
his own Latin band.
In Movie Shorts
Hawley and his band per
formed in movie shorts and
in "Pot of Gold," a longer fea
ture, which starred Paulette
Goddard, Jimmy Stewart and
Horace Heidt.
While with Special Serv
ices in the Army, Hawley
worked with Bing Crosby,
Red Skelton and other film
celebrities while entertaining
troops overseas.
Hawley runs a television
show in the northwest called
"Mr. Talent," a program of
amateur tryouts similar to the
Ted Mack show.
Theme of his year's Kiwa
nis Kapers is a musical trip
around Washington, D.C.
called "Around the Town."
All show proceeds will go to
the Jackson county children's
dental clinic in the county
courthouse.

To Meet Monday
The annual meeting of the
Southern Oregon Production
Credit association will be
held at the Rogue Valley
Country club Monday, Feb.
8, at 10:30 a.m.
A family-style chicken din
ner will be served at noon.

A business meeting will fol
low the dinner and special
gifts will be given. Annual re
ports and election of two new
directors are on the agenda.

Local Police Arrest Man
On Fugitive Charge
Medford police Friday ar
rested Robert Leroy Hamrick,
1121 Pinecroft st., Medford,
on charts of being a fugi
tive from justice from Red
ding, Calif., according to reports.
Hamrick is being held in
the county jail. He is wanted
by Redding authorities as a
violator of parole, police said.

Salem - The department of
motor vehicles has released
names of 500 drivers whose
licenses were ordered sus
pended during the period be
ginning Jan. 25 and ending
Jan. 29.

The department said some of
the licenses involving court
recommendations may have
been reinstated after suspen
sion was ordered.
The department warned
drivers that the penalty for
driving while suspended is a
jail sentence of no less than
two days and up to six
months, and there may be im
posed a fine up to $500. Un
der licensing procedures, this
will also result in an addi
tional year of suspension.
