from Oregon S tate college
were called upon to serve as
"know-how" ambassadors to
foreign countries in every sec
tion of the world last year. .
Their s h o r t-term assign
ments as consultants and ad
visers came either at the re
quest of the foreign country
or as part of the U.S. technical
assistance program overseas.
The number of staff mem
bers selected for the special
assignments and . the wide
range of fields in which they
were chosen is evidence of the
high regard held for OSC sci
entists, college officials noted.
An OSC staff member, for
example, "was one of seven
U.S. scientists picked to go to
Russia on a six-week radia
tion biology exchange pro
gram. Another was called to
Ethiopia to assist that govern
ment in a three-month nutri
tion survey and one went to
Nigeria, Africa, to help in
crop development.
Brief Assignments
Other staff members accept
ed brief assignments to India
for work in entomology and
dairy production; to Puerto
Rico for work on development
of new food products; to the
Philippines to develop con
trols for a destructive coco
nut disease: to Spain as an
American delegate to the In
ternational Trade Fair; to
Trance, England, Germany,
Japan, and South America for
other advisory missions.
Still another OSC scientist
was picked for a three-month
assignment as consultant on
seed production in eight coun
tries - Turkey, Cyprus, Jor
dan, Pakistan, India, Ceylon,
Iran and Nepal.
For the past 5Y2 years, OSC
has provided technical assist
ance to Kasetsart university
in Thailand under an agree
ment between the two institu
tions and the U.S. and. Thai
governments. Selected OSC
staff members have gone there
for special assignments and
Kasetsart staff members
brought to this country for
training. This program will be
concluded in April.

23. The meeting was held at
the home of Mrs. Frank My
ers. All members were pres
ent. In answering roll call, each
girl demonstrated how . to
thread a needle.
The next meeting will be
Feb. 6. During this meeting
Aletta Myers will name and
point out the parts of the sew
ing machine. One of the girls
in "Just so Girl" will demon
strate how to attach a paper
bag to a table. The bag is used
to put scraps in.
