'Good Thrashing'

thrashing."
The Jew hit Heinz Weil, 33-year-old
salesman, with a bar
stool when Weil called him
a "Jewish lout," West Berlin
police reported.
No charges were preferred
against the Jew but police or
dered Weil's interrogation.
Police gave Weil a blood
test to see if he was drunk and
then sent him home. He was
believed to have a broken jaw.
The Jew acted on advice

disclosed.

Burglars Get $1,800
Vale (UPD Police today
sought burglars who broke
into a local serviced station
Saturday night and escaped
with $1,800 in cash, checks
and credit cards.
Police Chief Robert Ingram
said the thieves gained en
trance by breaking out a win
dow, and then prying the of
fice door open. He said the
job of punching the safe dial
appeared to be a "profession
al" one.

are being added to the Public
Library of Medford and Jack
son County at an accelerated
rate.
A total of 1,098 books were
added in December, of which
1,007 were adult and 91 ju
venile. Of these, 441 were
paperbound editions. The in
crease was handled by the
same staff through the intro
duction of streamlined proc
essing for paperbound fiction
and certain kinds of hard
cover fiction, such as myster
ies, westerns, and science fic
tion. In a quality survey of the
books in Oregon libraries,
our public library rated high
in the fields of childrens
books, notable fiction . and
non-fiction, reference books
and periodicals. The library
was low in science, rockr
and missiles, and child ca.
and development. Efforts are
under way to strengthen the
weak areas. The need for
science and technology
knowledge is imperative in
our age.

tion to dissolve Floyd Patter
son Enterprises Ltd. and Tele
prompter Corporation.
Lefkowitz. sought orders in
state Supreme Court to per
mit him to take action against
the two corporations. He
charged that the two compan
ies had violated state anti
trust law bv combining to
monopolize the promotion of
heavyweight champio nship
fights.
The action by the attorney
general resulted from his in
vestigation of the promotional
asDects of last June's heavy
weight title fight between
Floyd Patterson and lngemar
Johansson.
Lefkowitz said he also will
institute antitrust proceedings
against individuals and firms
involved in the alleged con
spiracy. Fire Destroys Old
Buildings in Idaho
Wallace, Ida.-IUPD-Fire ear
ly Sunday destroyed the last
of the old wooden buildings
in the downtown business dis
trict of this northern Idaho
mining town.
Destroyed in the blaze were
two barber shops, an unused
cafe and a bar. No injuries
were reported.
Brick buildings on either
side of the burned area re
ceived only smoke and water
damage.

1900, the market has risen in
10 presidential election years
and declined in five.
The declines came in 1916
when Wilson was elected for
a second term; in 1920 when
Harding was elected; in 1932
and 1940 when Franklin
Roosevelt was elected; and
1948 when Truman was elect

ever, that presidential elec
tion years produce some wide
market movements as the elec
tion approaches and the street
tries to discount the success

Actress Settles
For Death of Son

Signe Hasso Thursday settled
for an undisclosed amount a
$150,000 suit involving the
death of her son in a traffic
accident.
Miss Hasso's suit named
Louis Keith - Wills, 29, and
John Brascial, 26, who had
taken her son Henry Hasso,
22, for a ride in an auto Jan.
15, 1957. Hasso was killed
when the car crashed. The
suit was settled at a pretrial
hearing.
