Protests Sanitary
Sewer Assessment
The Medford city council
heard an unscheduled protest
at last night's meeting from
a property owner in the Ber
rydale area assessed by the
city for a sanitary sewer re
cently constructed there.
William Doernbach, 143
Mace ave., protested against
the city's method of assess
ment, contending that he and
other property owners there
are paying for the cost of the
contractor's delay in finish
ing project, which was not
completed by the date speci
fied in the contract.
Doernbach was specifically
referring to the contract pro
vision that if the contractor
failed to complete the project
in the time alloted by the
contract he should pay the
city $50 for each day he was
over in order to reimburse
the city for extra services.
Waives Fee
However, he noted that the
council at an earlier meeting
had waived the S50 fee even
though one of the contractors
was 75 days over the contract
date and the other one 15
days over.
He said the property own
ers are now being required
to pay the extra services
through assessments and felt
they should rightfully be paid
by the city or the contractors.
The council asked for a
written report from Doern
bach concerning his protests
to be taken under considera
tion. The council elected to refer
the question of the Jackson
park locomotive to a future
joint session of the council
and the parks and recreation
commission.
Call Special Meeting
After hearing a recom
mendation from the commis
sion that the locomotive be
left in its present location,
Councilman Robert Baccus
said that there was some ques
tion in the minds of some
Of the members and moved
that it be considered at a
special meeting of the two
groups.
Mrs. Joyce Pidcock, 744
West McAndrews rd., pre
sented the council a petition
last night to show, she said,

that there were quite a few
residents of the area who op
posed the present location of
the locomotive.
Several items concerning
taxi cabs and taxi driver li
censes came before the coun
cil last night, all of which
were referred to a council
committee to meet at some
future date.
License Application '
The Medford Airport Lim
ousine Service applied for a
taxi cab operator's license, so
the company could operate a
limousine to transport passen
gers between the airport and
local hotels and motels.
Lawyer Ben Day, who rep
resented the applicants, said
they felt there was enough
public need for the service
which would meet every in
coming and outgoing plane.
Day said the company
would not serve residential
districts and would merely be
an airport service.
A lawyer representing the
Yellow Cab company told the
council his clients felt there
was not enough need for an
additional airport service !
since the firm was adequately
prepared to meet the demand,
even having a limousine ready
for use should it be needed.
To complicate matters, the
council noted that there was
another applicant for a cab
company franchise who would
apply at some future date,
and would probably expect
the same privileges as those
of the existing taxi fran
chises. A request by Yellow Cab
company to raise its fares
during nights when there was
thick fog was also referred
to the committee.
