ity to knot the battle once
more when the first of a one-and-one
free chance failed to
swish in with six seconds left.
Hotter shooting from both
the field and the gift stripe
and better rebounding paid
off for the SOC Raiders. Free
tosses played a substantial
role in the second half with
the Ashlanders putting in 18
to 16 by the Techman.
Carrigan was high point
man for the' night with nine
field goals and seven free
shots for 25 points. Glen
reterson was second high for
SOC with 15. For OTI Dennis
McKee put in 18, Troy Koontz
12 and Jack Horton 11. Peter
son led the evening rebound
ing with 12 snares and Horton
had 10.
Although the Red Raiders
were on top through much of
the hassle, they had to come
from four points back to earn
the decision. The Owls had
four leads of four markers,
the last 64 to 60. Two free
shots by Tom Bernet and a
turning jumper by Carrigan
wiped out the gap with 4 23
minutes to go. Southern Ore
gon went back on top with
two gifters by Carrigan but
Leon Wilson deadlocked it for
OTI at 66-all on a pair of free
heaves.
Raiders Go Ahead
Dick Smith took the count
to 68 to 66 for the Raiders on
a bucket under the net on a
Carrigan assist. With 65 sec
onds left Dennis McKee got
the ball when he broke up a
drive-through try by Carri
gan. McKee went the length
of the floor to make it 68
each. Bernet put SOC ahead
again on free chucks for 70 to
68 but Charlie Wilson retali
ated for the Owls with a long
jump back of the key with 34
seconds remaining. Then
Flanary got what proved to
be the game winning field
shot.
Owl Coach Wally Palmberg,
using two platoons in the
tangle, abandoned that sys
tem in the crucial final min
utes. ,SOC trailed only once in
the first half and briefly at 30
to 32. Halfway score was 32
all. The Raiders put in seven
points before OTI could score
and had several six point
spreads in the first half. Tech
tied up the fray at 14 and 30
apiece.
46 to 41 Gap
In the second half the Raid
ers jumped into the lead and
with 614 minutes contested
were in front 46 to 41. But
with. 12 minutes left in the
game OTI tied up the action
at 48-all. The Owls took the
lead at 51 to 50 with lOVa
minutes to go on a pair of
free shots by Horton. During
this stage of the ruckus OTI
picked up 10 straight points
on free shots. In the mean
time, the Raiders managed
two gift markers and a field
bucket.
Owl four-point differences
included 54 to 50, 56 to 52 and
62 to 58. There were tie
scores at 56 and 58 each.
SOC, hitting at .448 aver
age, outgunned OTI 26 to 23
from the field. The Klamath
Falls team shot .329. From
the free line the Owls put in
24 to the Raiders' 22 but OTI
had more chances, 40 to the
Ashland schools' 32.

Braves Warned
To Be on Toes
United Press International
Manager Chuck Dressen has
sent up a warning to the Mil
waukee Braves "to be on their
toes because nobody's job is
safe."
The effervescent new pilot
did it Tuesday when he hint
ed that National league bat
ting champion Hank Aaron
might be asked to play second
base. Aaron has played both
second and third at various
times in the last five years
but always has expressed a
preference for the outfield.
There are three second-base
candidates in addition to Red
Schoendienst ahead of Aaron
so there reallv isnt much
chance that Hammerin' Hank
will show up at that position
in the foreseeable future.
The obvious point Dressen
is putting across is that if he's
thinking of switching Aaron
he could be thinking of
switching anyone. Therefore,
goes the supposed reasoning,
the other Braves will report
to spring training ready to
give 100 per cent effort from
the start.
