In the Day's News
By FRANK JENKINS
From Germany:
Chancellor Konrad Adenau
er, in a' radio appeal, calls
for "quick and powerful"
court action against NEO
Nazis and other persons at
tacking Jews.
What's a neo-Nazi?
It comes from the Greek
word neos, meaning NEW
especially new and DIFFER
ENT or more recent. So ;
NEO-Nazis is a new and more
recent kind of Nazi.
IITHAT'S a NAZI?
Generally speaking, Nazis
are Germans who want the
government to run every
thing.
And
THEY WANT TO RUN THE
GOVERNMENT.
"1fORE trouble in Cuba
where Castro's govern
ment is "expropriating" more
and more American property,
The value of U.S. property
taken over so far is estimated
in the tens of millions of dol
lars, and almost any time now
the Castro government is ex
pected to start moving in on
the 1,700,000 acres of sugar
land owned by Americans
WHAT wil1 happen if Cas-
tro goes through with
his expropriation plans?
Well
In the long run.
It won't be good for Cuba
and the Cubans. Here in our
State of Jefferson, for ex
ample, we have large hold
ings of timber land. Suppose
these lands were all taken
away from their owners and
divided up among the rest of
us.
It may sound good, right
off the bat BUT IT WOULD
NOT BE GOOD.
WER the long pull, it
V wouldn't be good for any
of us, and here's why:
If they were deprived of
their timber lands, which pro
vide them with raw material,
the operators would have to
shut down their mills-for you
can t run a sawmill, or a ply
wood Dlant. or a hardboard
plant, or a pulp plant without
raw material, lhat wouia
throw their employees out of
jobs.
And
The individual holdings of
all the rest of us would be
so small that we couldn't com
mand the capital with which
to buy and operate the mills.
If we tried to sell our small
holdings to other big oper
ators who could supply the
capital, they'd laugh at us
for, with the precedent of ex
propriation once established,
who would know when the
timber lands would be ex
propriated AGAIN?
OO
3 If Castro starts taking
cu-ervthinff awav from those
who have it and giving it to
those who DON'T nave it, tnai
will be the end of Cuba.
Business is based on con
fidence. If there is no confi
rioni. there is no business
If there is no business, there
are no jobs.

Washington-(Science Serv-ice)-The

Although populations of this
