Bids Opened for
Grange Building
Graff and James, 125 South
Central ave., Medford, sub
mitted the apparent low bid
of $47,949 for construction of
a sales and warehouse build
ing for the Grange Coopera
tive in Ashland.
Bids were opened at the
office of Marquess and Mar
quess, Medford consulting en
gineers. Other bidders were Wiley
company, Ashland, $51,350;
Ausland Construction com
pany, Grants Pass, $53,990;
and James Henson, Central
Point, S62,244.
The building will have tilt
up concrete walls, concrete
floor, glued laminated trusses,
plywood sheathing and built
up rof. The building will be
74 by 40 feet.

gene is architect.
Registration Set
For History Course
Central Point-Registrations
will be accepted Wednesday,
Jan. 13, at Crater High school,
Central Point, for enrollment
in a general extension divi
sion class in United States
history.
The class meets between 7
and 9:45 p.m. weekly, and
provides three hours credit for
the 10-week session. Dr. F. D
Haines Jr., Southern Oregon
college, is instructor.

Icy Roads Halt Visits

Hilta Icy roads kept many
local residents at home dur
ing the holidays but quite a
few braved the poor driving
conditions to come here or
to visit friends and relatives
in other communities.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Span
naus visited their son and
daughter - in - law, Mr. and
Mrs. William Spannaus and
family, Oroville. Other guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Harold
McFerrin and son Terry.
Wayne Green returned to
Fort Ord after visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
Green and family. Green
was inducted into the Army
three weeks ago.
J. F. Haynes and daughter
Leigh Ann, Redding, visited
briefly at the Fred Haynes
home Monday.
Jackie McAllister of Gar
den Grove visited the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Richard McAllister.

Local Station Is
Tops in Recruiting
The local Marine Corps re
cruiting station was the top
recruiting station in Oregon
during November and Decem
ber MSgt. Bill Rayner and
SSgt. Stan Elbie, recruiters,
have reported.
Last September, the local
station was the top one-man
station in the 12th Marine
Corps recruiting district,
which includes Washington,
Oregon, California, Idaho,
Montana, Utah and Arizona.
Sergeant Elbie manned the
station during September.
Mr. and Mrs. John Fenton
and family returned home
Saturday after visiting rela
tives in Redding. Fenton
teaches the third and fourth
grades.

Perez and family also return
ed home Saturday after visit
ing relatives in the Bay Area,
Gerber, and Chico. Perez also
teaches the seventh and
eighth grades.

Cushion Will Be
Roundtable Topic
A new kind of cushion for
dental chairs will be the sub
ject of a talk Monday noon
at the Jackson County Cham
ber of Commerce roundtable
luncheon at the Jackson hotel.
Kenneth C. Kerr, owner of
Modern Furniture company,
1222 South Riverside ave., is
the inventor of this new cush
ion and will discuss the prod
uct at the luncheon. He has
established a division of his
furniture company called the
Professional Cushion Supply
company which manufactures
and sells the cushions in the
northwest.
Ken Baker, chairman of the
roundtable, said Kerr will be
another of a number of local
businessmen who have been
invited to discuss individual
businesses and products.
Marine Corps Taking
More Enlistments
Quota restrictions for the
Marine Corps have been lift
ed, and the Corps is accept
ing enlistments in unlimited
numbers, the recruiting office
here has announced.

Reported Last Week
A total of 70 cases of in-
fluenza were reported in Jack- j
