This Week's Home For Living-
By HIAWATHA ESTES
What features do you pre
fer be included in your new
home? Privacy? Comfort?
Mimimum upkeep? Outdoor
living? Spaciousness? They're
all here in this design.
The garage is separated
from the house by a breeze
way, yet it is only a short dis
tance from the kitchen entry.
A 3-foot, 6-inch wide storage
shelf is specified at the rear
of the garage at a sufficient
height for the family car to
park beneath.
This home not only has a
large family room, but also a
dining ell open to the living
room. This arrangement in
creases the visual area in the
living room and allows the
family room to be used en
tirely for family actvities. The
family room is separated from
the center hall entry by a par
tial wall with turned posts
above; and from the kitchen
by a partial wall at the back
of the built-in range-which
allows mother to enter into
the family activities.

Farm Notes
Washington - IUPD - The
agriculture department said
about 40 per cent of all milk
sold wholesale by farmers
during 1959 was priced under
terms of federal milk mar
keting orders. It was a new
high.
t ive new oraers were is
sued in 1959-those for Color-1
ado Springs-Pueblo, Connecti
cut, Great Basin, Utah, Upper
Chesapeake Bay and Wash
ington, D.C. There were two
mergers of established orders
- greater Boston-Merrimack
Valley and Cleveland-Akron-Stark
County Renamed
Northeastern Ohio.
Milk orders establish the
minimum prices which hand
lers must pay farmers for
their milk. They do not set
retail prices nor regulate
producers.
More than 78 billion con
sumers now reside in regulat
ed marketing areas.
. Washington - (WD - .The
agriculture department's farm
price report this week showed
prices of feeder ' livestock
down to the lowest level since
November, 1957.
Prices of feeder cattle in
mid-December were down an
average of 70 cents per hun
dred pounds from one month
earlier. This was the eighth
consecutive monthly drop in
feeder livestock prices.
Washington - (WD - The
Food and Drug administra
tion has taken the first step
toward granting full clear
ance for continued use of
supplemental minerals in ani
mal feed.
The agency has published
a list of 37 compounds which
serve as sources of cobalt,
copper, iodine, iron, manga
nese, and zinc. The govern
ment proposes to officially
designate these compounds
as safe when used in regulat
ed amounts.
Washington -(UPD- Agricul
ture Secretary Ezra T. Ben
son is confident that the re
turning Congress will do
something about the nation's
wheat problem.
Benson has said the huge
wheat surplus is the nation's
number one farm problem.
;He suggested that the
"something" would be in line
with the Eisenhower admin
istration's proposals.
The administration's pro
posed wheat program, out
lined in broad terms last
year, called for elimination
of acreage controls and re
duction of government price
supports.
The wheat support price
would be a precentage of the
average market price for the
preceding three years. This is
the same sort of program used
for corn for the first time
with the 1959 crop. The 1959
corn harvest was the largest
in history.
Washington -OIPD-Sen. Stu
art Symington (D-Mo.) plans
to introduce early in the new
session of Congress a farm
bill to "halt . and reverse" a
downward trend, in farm pric

Symington, a member of
the senate agriculture com
mittee said Monday that farm
prices in mid-December av
eraged 77 per cent of so-called
"fair price" parity, the low
est December figure since
1933.

extra wide pantry with floor
to ceiling shelves.
In addition to the large
amount of wardrobe space in
each of the bedrooms, there
are three large linen and stor

Travel by Train

often took train trips, but dis
liked having to pay for his
ticket, police said.
Then he had an idea. He
bought a railroad inspector's
uniform, -cap and all, and
traveled free.
All went well for Ward un
til one day between trains he
went to lunch in a railway
men's canteen and offered to
pay for his ' meal, instead of
showing a meal ticket.
He was arrested when the
counterman became curious
and called police.
