guards around Jewish centers
in the city to guard against
further vandalism
. The new reports came as
Chancellor Konrad Adenauer
prepared to meet with his
cabinet on Wednesday to dis
cuss the growing wave of
anti-Semitism in West Ger

Trials of 200 in
'Invasion Plot'
Havana, Cuba - (UPD - The
trials of nearly 200 men in
connection with last August's
"'invasion plot" were postpon
ed without explanation today.
The trials had been sched
uled to start this morning in
Havana's La Cabana Fortress
prison.
- But a spokesman for the
revolutionary tribunals said
they would be delayed. He
said the exact dates for their
6tart has not yet been fixed,
but probably will be set this
week.
Death Demanded
The prosecution had de
manded the death penalty for
about 20 defendants who land
ed an airplane in Trinidad,
Cuba, and fired on Cuban
troops lying in wait for them.
The state wants others among
the 190 defendants sentenced
to prison for 20, 25, or 30
years.
Maj. William Morgan, form
er Toledo, Ohio, resident who
lost his U.S. citizenship last
year, was expected to be a
key witness for the prosecu
tion.
Double Agent
Morgan acted as a double
agent in the invasion, posing
as one of its leaders while he
kept Premier Fidel Castro's
government informed of its
progress. Some of the defend
ants on trial today were ar
rested in Morgan's home.
The ex-American has charg
ed that Dominican strong man
Rafael Trujillo was "directly
behind the plot." Cuban broke
off relations with the Domini
can Republic last year.

New York - (UPD - Every

Electric added a dash of blu
ing to the phosphor which
coats the inside face of tele
vision tubes. It claims the
slight blue tint results in a
clearer white in the TV picture.

Berlin dispatches said the
anti-Semitic vandalism took
place in downtown West Ber
lin in the borough of Charlot
tenburg in the British sector.
Buildings were defaced dur
ing the night and the "out
with the Jews" slogans dis
covered this morning.
Police paid particular atten
tion to the acts in Berlin be
cause 25 nationalists tried
Sunday to rally around a
swastika-decorated flag in a
park here. Nine were arrest
ed and the rest fled. Today
police posted guards around
three synagogues, two schools
and other similar centers.
The rally was organized by
a group calling itself the "Na
tional Youth of Germany"
and police said many partici
pants were members of the
extreme right-wing "German
Reich party." Two members
of the party touched off the
wave of anti - Semitism by
daubing a Cologne church on
Christmas eve.
There are 7,500 Jews in
West Berlin. Before the Nazis
came to power there were
180,000.
Daubings Spread
The anti-Semitic campaign,
marked by the daubings of
swastikas and anti-Jewish slo
gans on synagogues through
out Germany, also has spread
to other West European coun
tries and similar incidents
were reported in England,
Scotland, Austria, Belgium,
Norway, France, Sweden and
the United States.
The outbreak was of special
concern to West Germany,
trying to live down the days
of Adolf Hitler when millions
of Jews were persecuted, and
the government issued a state
ment Saturday night saying
ine swastika paintings ap
peared to be "part of a
planned action to defame the
federal republic in the eyes
of the world."
There was a growing belief
the Communist East Germans
might be behind the move to
defame the Adenauer govern
ment. Authorities noted that
Paul Schoenen, one of two
young men arrested in the
Christmas eve desecration of
a Cologne church, wore an
East German Communist par
ty emblem.

Police Check Two Accidents

minor injuries as the result of
a traffic accident reported to
city police Saturday. Two per
sons were cited for traffic vio

Miss Bessonette was a pas
senger in a vehicle operated
by Monica Ann Anderson, 19,
of 2607 Eastover dr., which
struck a power pole at the

Rail Merger Forces
Dog to Change Habit
Victoria, Va.- (UPD Merging
the Norfolk and Western and
Virginian Railways has forc
ed a pet dog to change a habit
of 12 years.
The dog, a pet of Virginian
workers, used to lie between
the rails just ahead of the
stopping . point for locomo
tives pulling m here to
change crews.
But somebody forgot to tell
the pooch that trains wouldn't
be stopping there any more.
The day after the two lines
combined an angry worker
called N&W General Superin
tendent W. S. Clement to tell
him:
"You've got to do some
thing about our dog. This
morning one of your fast
freights came through here at
50 miles an hour and nearly
killed him."
The pet was tied up after
that:

Mrs. Anderson told city po
lice that she swerved to avoid
a dog and lost control of the
car on the icy street, striking
the pole. Miss Bessonette was
taken to the Sacred Heart

SILENT NIGHT'

Dr. Harvey Flack, editor of
Family Doctor, a British
journal.
Dr. Flack wants husbands
and wives to participate in
a six -week experiment he
calls "Operation Silent
Night." During the expert

peat "guilty" three times.

Battle To Draw

The monthly magazine Traf
fic Safety said deer cause an
estimated annual property
loss of $12 million or more in
collisions with cars. Many mo
torists are injured or killed in
the accidents.
On the other hand, last
year Pennsylvania reported
12,000 deer killed in colli
sions, New Jersey and New
York more than 5,000, Michi
gan more than 4,000 and Wis
consin 2,470.
Some tips to save the lives
of deer ana cut down on auto
accidents:
Heed "Danger-Deer Cross
ing" highway signs.
Remember that a deer's
eyes glow like the eyes of
dogs, cats and raccoons.
Hit the brakes if a deer
dashes into the road in front
of you. Others often follow
the lead deer.
Switch to low beam and
blow the car horn if you spot
a deer in the road ahead. Deer
are blinded by bright lights.
Lowering the headlights will
let the animal see which way
it wants to go.

Cleared First Time
Hargrove, who had an eight
month romance with Clark's
wife, Lois, a former Miami
model, twice confessed to the
bizarre murder but was clear
ed the first time by authori
ties who gave him a lie de
tector test.
But he was picked up again
at his mother's home in To
ledo after police received an
anonymous telephone call in
forming them that Hargrove
purchased a .22-caliber rifle
the day before the murder.
He confessed again. This
plus the fact that a handwrit
ing expert identified Har
grove's handwriting on the
sales slip for the rifle and the
matching of two bullets led to
the murder charge.
