HORNBROOK
Many Christmas Visits

" Hornbrook Many local
residents entertained guests
over the Christmas holidays
while still others visited
- friends and relatives through
out this and other areas.
Dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. L. C. Walsh and daugh
ter Sharee were Mr. and Mrs.
Lauran Paine and sons Lornie
and Bob, Ft. Jones. Bob, a
pre-med student at the Univer
sity of Oregon at Eugene, is
spending the holidays at
home.
Mr. and Mrs. V. W. Bailey,
Portland, spent Christmas
here with their daughter and
her family, Mr. and Mrs. Al
Kutzkey and four children, at
their lodge up the Klamath
river.
Holiday visitors at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Curtis
Peters and their two children
were his sisters, Marcella and
Mary Jane Peters and Mr
and Mrs. Al Walker, all of
San Francisco. Joining them
for dinner were Mr. and Mrs
Ted Ladd. Ladd is a brother
of Mrs. Peters, and Mrs. Ladd
and Mrs. Walker are sisters.
Klamath Falls with her sister
and brother-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Ned Putnam. Putnam
came over in his plivate plane
and flew his guests to his
home.
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. (Slim)
Protsman spent the holiday in
Yreka at the home of their
daughter and son-in-law Mr.
and Mrs. Mel Cozzalio and
their three sons.
Mrs. Bertha Bradley . re
ceived word Christmas Eve
that her son Jack Bradley,
Napa, Calif., had .suffered a
severe heart attack, and will
be confined to the hospital for
a lengthy period. At present,
he is not allowed visitors.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin McMas-
ter and sons Steve, Gary, and
Larry had Christmas dinner
at the home of her parents.
Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Clyburn on
the Klamath river. Other
guests were a brother, Wood
row Clyburn, Weed, and Mr,
and Mrs. Ernest McBain and
daughter, Narcie, Yreka. Mrs
. McMaster and Mrs. McBain
are sisters.
Spending Christmas Eve
with their parents, the Louis
Millers, were son John Miller
and son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller
and children Mike and Jean-
nie, Ashland. Christmas day
their daughter, Mrs. R. E. Mil
ler and her children Elin and
Bob Jr. of Jennie creek were
dinner guests, as were neigh
bors Mrs. Minnie Farrel and
Daniel Cook, and Mr. and
Mrs. Al Guerrin of the Horse
shoe ranch up the Klamath
river. Bob Miller Jr., a stu
dent at Oregon State college,
is home for the holidays.
Arriving Dec. 24 for a
week's visit with Mr. and
Mrs. "Ike" Dooley and sons
were her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Jack Sain, Areata, Calif.
Visiting Christmas day were
friends Mr. and Mrs. Ray
mond Thomason and sons
Gene and Merle, and Miles
Thomason, all of Los Angeles,
and Al Thomason, Humbug.
Thomason is Raymond's fa
ther. Mrs. Al Thomason is a
patient in the Siskiyou Gen
eral hospital, Yreka.
Mrs. Emory Parshall slipped
and fell at her home Dec. 23,
breaking her hip. She was
taken by ambulance to the
Siskiyou General hospital,
Yreka, where she was to
undergo surgery Sunday
morning. It is expected she
will be in the hospital for
about a month.
Mrs. Orson Coleman re
turned Dec. 15 from the Ash
land General hospital where
she had been a patient for a
week following surgery.
Also returning home Dec.
15 was Mrs. John Griffin, who
had major surgery Dec. 7 at
the Rogue Valley Memorial
hospital, Medford.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivon Howard
and her sister, Mrs. Dan Van
Gerpen, St. Joseph's, 111., ac
companied by Rob Cummins,
drove to Dunsmuir Dec. 16
where Mrs. Van Gerpen took
the train for Albuquerque,
N.M., where she attended the
wedding of a granddaughter
Dec. 19. She plans to spend
the remainder of the winter
in Albuquerque with her
daughter. Mrs. Van Gerpen
had come to Hornbrook to at
tend her sister and bother-in-law's
golden wedding anniver
sary open house Dec. 13 at the
Howard home.
Mrs. John Rosenberg left
for Chicago by plane Dec. 18
to visit her son and his wife,
Cpl. and Mrs. Willis Jones,
and to meet her first grand
child, Phillip Kay Jones, born
Dec. 7. Cpl. Jones is stationed
at Ft. Sheridan, 111.
, Spending Christmas Eve
with the "Pete" Fishers and
their three children were his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Fisher, Horse creek, and her
parents and brothers, Mr. and
Mrs. L. E. Flack, Virgil, Au
dren, also of Horse creek, and
Floyd, who has just returned
home after spending a year
with the Marines in Honolulu.
Holiday guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Glen Robertson and her
mother, Mrs. Collie Fairbanks,
were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene
Way, Scott Valley.
Mr. and Mrs. David Mallow
and children, Big Springs,
were Christmas guests of her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Greene and granddaughters,
Linda and Lydia Greene.
Mr. and Mrs. James Gaut
and daughter Marcheta, Fal
lon, Nev., and their son and
his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Hoover, Reno, Nev, arrived
Dec. 24 to spend the holiday
week end with Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Wayne and their son
and daughter.
Mr. and Mrs. Andrew
(Buck) Skeahan and four chil
dren and her mother, Mrs.
Jean Etier, Redding, were
Christmas day guests of his
mother, Mrs. Agnes Skeahan
and daughter Edna, down the
Klamath river. Joining the
group for dinner were Mr. and
Mrs. Merle Hegler and daugh
ter Karen and Barbara, Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Milne and chil
dren Billy and Cheryl, Mr.
and Mrs. Mike Skeahan and
children Clifford, Susie, and
Ginger, and Mr. and Mrs.
John Skeahan and son Marc.
Mrs. George Pettee drove
to San Francisco Dec. 19. Re
turning home with her was
Miss Agnes Tackleberry. who
spent the week here. Christ
mas day, Mr. and Mrs. Pettee
and their guest had dinner in
Yreka at the home of Mrs.
Pettee's son and his wife, Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Dodson.
Mr. and Mrs. Dudley Kil
lingsworth were guests in
Hilts of their son and his fam
ily, Mr. and Mrs. "Pat" Kil
lingsworth and their two chil
dren. Other dinner guests
were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tho
mas and four children, and
Mrs Naomi Owens, all of
Yreka. Mrs. Thbmas is a
daughter of the Dudley Kil
linsrsworths, and Mrs. Owens
fathe mother of Mrs. "Pat"
Killingsworth.
Mr 'andMrs. George Mc
Cann' spent Christmas in
Mrs. L. C. Walsh received I
word Dec. 16 of the birth of a
daughter that day to her niece
and her husband, Mr. and Mrs.
Hugh Black, La Grande, Ore.
The little girl, named Bonnie
Jean, is a first grandchild of
Mrs. Walsh's sister and brother-in-law.
Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Nothelfer. Salem. The
Nothelfers are frequent visi
tors here. Mr. and Mrs. Walsh
left Dec. 26 for Salem, where
they will meet the newest
member of the family.
A lift truck repair shop has
been completed at the Black
Mountain Lumber Co., and
the building now in progress
is to be a dry kiln, according
to the owners and managers of
the local company.
Mr. and Mrs. Loren Cum
mins and Mrs. Rachel Martin
took part in a Spanish dinner
recently at the Theo Deter
home in Yreka. Mrs. Cummins
and Mrs. Martin, both teach
ers in the local grammar
school, are members of an eve
ning Spanish class being
taught by Stephen Pueyo of
the faculty of Yreka High
school. The dinner was for
members of the class and their
wives or husbands, and each
member was to prepare and
bring a Spanish dish to the
dinner. The main dish was
prepared by Mrs. Nellie Grif
fith, who formerly lived in
Hornbrook, but now makes
her home in Montague.
Mrs. Mary Kurt and her
daughter, Mrs. W. A. Rut-
ledge, received a telephone
call Dec. 18 advising them of
the death in Tacoma, Wash.,
of Mrs. Lee Bailey, 81, wife
of Mrs. Kurtz' brother. They
drove to Ft. Jones that after
noon where they had the un
happy task of breaking the
news to Mr. Bailey, who is 84
years old. Mrs. Bailey had
been in Tacoma since October
visiting a daughter. Funeral
services were held Dec. 22 at
Girdner's funeral chapel in
Yreka, with burial in the Ft.
Jones cemetery.
John Wayne, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Wayne, is one
of six new students applying
for admission at the new Col
lege ot the Siskiyous during
the spring semester beginning
Feb. 1. John is a senior at
Yreka High school.
Linda and Lydia Greene
took part in the Nativity pag
eant presented by the Sunday
school of St. Mark's Episcopal
church in Yreka Dec. 20. The
two little girls are grand
daughters of Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Greene, and make their
home here with their grandparents.
