McLoughlin Junior High

McLoughlin Boosters will
be sporting school colors in
the rooting sections for the
basketball season with the ar
rival this week of new gold
sweaters to go with their
black skirts.
The halls have resounded
this week with music as stud
ents in the PE classes started
their session of square danc
ing. The boys and girls classes
are combined for this activity.
Special practice sessions are
being held as the music stud
ents prepare for the combined
Christmas program to be held
at Hedrick Dec. 17.
Linda Wilson, Judy Fore
man, and Dixie Taylor were
selected from the Home Ec de
partment to demonstrate how
to give a pre-Christmas 'teen
party on Gretchen Wade's
Friendship Circle program on
television, Monday, Dec. 14.
Miss Mary Grumbach is their
teacher.
FHA members went to the
new Safeway store at the
Medford Shopping Center
Thursday afternoon after
school and were conducted on
a tour through the meat de
partment, produce depart
ment, storage rooms and cold
rooms. Al Nordquist, store
manager, answered questions.
Miss Ruth Osborn accompan
ied the group. Each girl was
presented a hyacinth bulb as
a gift from the store.
Fred Spiegelberg, senior
high football coach, was guest
speaker at the annual Foot
ball banquet for the eighth
and ninth grade Bulldog
teams and their dads held in
the cafeteria Thursday eve
ning. Awards were presented
to individual players and
movies of the Mac-Hedrick
game and the Medford-Jeffer-son
game were shown to the
group.
Mike Neahamer was pre
sented the outstanding leader
ship award; David Crocker,
outstanding lineman; Ron
Caulkins, outstanding back;
and Jim Titus, most improved
player award. A new honor,
that of the most valuable
player on the eighth grade
team, went to Mike Barnes.
The coaches, Ralph Perkins,
and, Dale Bates, made the
awards. The boys in turn pre
sented their coaches with
gifts, Mr. Perkins a jacket,
and Mr. Bates, insulated hunt
ing gear.
Berl Cox, principal, Elliot
Becken and Russ Acheson, as
sistant superintendents, and
other school officials were
special guests. The students in
the home economics depart
ment served the dinner, and
the students in the art depart
ment furnished decorations
used in the banquet setting.

by the art classes with various
kinds of painting. j

Large amounts of clothing j
were collected last week for j
the Bundle Day Clothing
drive which ended Friday. A
number of items were retain
ed for use in the Jackson ;
county clothing pool and the j
rest was sent to headquarters ;
to be distributed in the more
isolated regions of the United
States and overseas.

groups of the Illinois Valley
High school Dec. 17 in the
school gym at 8 p.m. A dress
rehearsal will be presented to
the IV student body the morn
ing of the program.
Drivers of the Illinois Val-
ley school buses are scheduled
to attend a safety school Dec.
16-17. The first meeting will
be in Grants Pass at the high
school the evening of Dec. 16
and the second will be at Illi
nois Valley High school, in the
visual-audio room, the eve
ning of Dec. 17. In addition to
the bus drivers, members of
the state police and other law
enforcement officers will at
tend. This school is a regular
part of the state's safety pro
gram. Dr. A. N. Collman, who re
ceived a badly crushed verte
brae in a fall at his home two
weeks ago, is slowly improv
ing and is keeping office

J. J. (Cap) Castleberry is in
the Seaside hospital in Cres
cent City where he was taken
following a heart attack rec
ently. He was in an oxygen
tent for three days but that
has been removed. Mr. and
Mrs. Castleberry are former
owners of a cafe in Cave
Junction.
Stewart Jones, who has
been a partner with Samuel
Miller in the electrical busi
ness for the last 15 years, has
purchased the Miller equity
and will operate it by himself.
He will continue to use the
name Miller Electric, howev
er. Miller will devote his time
to the motel business.
Mr. and Mrs. William (Bud)
H o s k i n s recently returned
home from Portland where
Bud had been receiving medi
cal care at the University of
Oregon hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crowl
were recent dinner guests at
the Les Henry home.
