The annual Christmas party
and regular meeting of the
Illinois Valley HEU will be
held at the home of Mrs. Dick
Rians Dec. 8 beginning at
10:30 with a pot luck dinner
at noon.
The topic for discussion will
be "Scotland." The ddscussion
will be directed by Mrs. Vern
Johnson and Mrs. Walt Col
pitts. Scotland was chosen for
discussion because it is the
site of the International meet
ing of the Association of Coun
try Women of the World. The
HEU feels that an affiliation
with this group gives it a
voice in international affairs.
Following pot-luck at noon
there will be a gift exchange
and Christmas tree.
Every homemaker in the
valley is invited.

met at the Oddfellows hall in
Kerby the evening of Nov. 25.

presided in the absence of the
Noble Grand, Edith Heiden

Election of officers was the
main business of the evening
and the following were elect
ed for the coming year: Ra
chel Foster, Noble Grand;
Mabel Ramsey, vice Grand;
Amy Hussey, secretary, and
Francis Rachner, treasurer.
The lodge will have its an
nual Christmas party Dec. 9.
Secret pals will be revealed
at this time and there will be
a gift exchange. Those who
do not have a secret pal will
bring a gift for a lady or man.
The meeting was followed
by refreshments served in the
dining room.
Western Star Social club
will hold its regular meeting
Monday, Dec. 7 with a potluck
luncheon at 12:30 followed
by the business meeting at 2
p.m. All members are urged
to attend.
, Word has been received
that William A. (Bud) Hos
kins, who has been in the
University of Oregon medical
hospital in Portland for sev
eral weeks, is still seriously
ill. Mrs. Hoskins has returned
to Portland to be with him.
Mr. and Mrs. Jess Case cf
Newport, Ore., were recent
visitors at the" E. J. Wilber
home where they viewed Mrs.
Wilber's bottle collection. Mr.
and Mrs. Case are hobbyists
also, collecting colored glass.
They were very enthusiastic
about the many bottles, espe
cially the very old ones with
interesting histories.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Boyd
spent Thanksgiving in Butte
Falls where they were din
ner guests of the Oliver
Boyds.
Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wilber
spent Thanksgiving with the
C. G. Wilhelms. The Wilhelms
own and operate Frans mar
ket on the Caves highway.
Mr., and Mrs. Don Myers
and baby daughter, Dena
Helen, from Eureka, were
visitors in the Illinois Valley
over the Thanksgiving holi
day and were guests of Don's
mother and father, Mr. and
Mrs. Herman Myers, who have
the Central cafe in Cave Junc
tion. Diane, Don's sister, re
turned to Eureka with them
on Friday, returning Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hadley,
daughter Cheri and son Dana
visited in San Francisco over
the Thanksgiving weekend.
They visited Dan's sister,
Carol Hadley, who is a regis
tered nurse working at the
hospital there.
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bow
ers, owners of the Dairy
Queen, entertained their son
and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mil
ford Bowers and four chil
dren, for two days, Thanks
giving and Friday. The young-
