Wanda Craig was crowned
Homecoming queen during
halftime ceremonies of the
Phoenix - Eagle Point game
Friday, Oct. 30. She was
chosen from four other candi
dates by the football team.
Her court included Linda Ray,
sophomore; Ella Fay Keeney,
junior; and Donna Demmer,
senior.
After school was dismissed,
students participated in a pa
rade of decorated cars and
class floats. Again the fresh
men triumphed when their
float took first place. Dean
Sommeri and Marion S to vail
won prizes for the best decor
ated cars.
; Home coming festivities
were highlighted by the game
Oct. 31, when the Phoenix
Pirates beat the Eagles, 28 to
12.
Homecoming corsages were
sold by the junior cuss on
Friday, Oct. 30. They were
made of white chrysanthe
mums with a blue felt "P'
in the center of each. The
"mums" were worn all day by
students. They were also
worn at the game.
This was another of the
money-raising projects spon
. sored by the juniors.
The first Camera club proj
ect of the vear is in connection
with the work of the annual
staff. Members of the ciud
went into Medford Nov. 10
to photograph places of busi
ness which are to be used in
the advertising section of the
Pirate Log.
The Oregon Industrial Arts
association recently held its
annual conference in Salem.
Attending the con v e n t i o n
from Phoenix were William
Schulz, shop teacher, and
Gary Chriss. The conference,
held Nov. 6 and 7, covered
many articles of interest for
hop teachers and . students,
according to Schulz.
Exhibits from 36 manufac
turers of shop equipment and
materials were shown, along
with demonstrations of plas
tics, woodwork, machine oper
ations, and machine manuals.

vention this year is Don Mc
Govern of Eagle Point.
In recognition of National
Library Week, the creative
Mrs. Mable Sims, put up a
display for the hall showcase.
It consisted of several good
books, a few of which should
be in the reading background
of everyone. This week a dis
play is featured on American
Education Week. The display
will consist of posters repre-
senting the following themes:
the children, the parents, the
teachers, the people next door,
and the members of the school
board. This week will be the
39th observance of American
Education Week.
The traditional freshmen
Initiation party was supplant
ed by the senior class "Beat
nik Party.' Instead of the raw
eggs and limburger cheese
which were refreshments for
the freshman class in pre
vious years, they were treated
to refreshments and dancing.
The theme was centered
ground the beatnik fad. Every
one wore beatnik attire and
prizes were awarded for the
most typical beatniks.
In breaking an old tradition
and bringing in a new one,
the class of '60 gave a party
which proved a success and
freshmen were welcomed to
PHS in style.

velt school was held in the
school gymnasium recently.
The meeting led by Cub Mas
ter Robert Griffith, featured
a skit based on Aesops Fables
by Den 1.

to Earl O'Dell and Rocky
James. Dennis Chapman was
advanced to wolf rank, and
Rocky Rose received a wolf
silver arrow.
