Woman, 42, Gets
Kansas City, Kan. - (DPB -Mrs.
Irene Collier Quinn, 42,
robbed a bank so she could go
to jail. That's where she is
today.' .
"I want to go to prison,"
Mrs. Quinn told officers when
they arrested her. "I'm the
one who robbed the bank."
Mrs. Quinn set out Wednes
day apparently with robbery
in mind and seeking detection.

State Banking Board today
upheld a franchise ruling for
Portland -Trust Company in
volving a Pendleton branch.
The Inland Empire Bank of
Umatilla had appealed the
franchise award by Superin
tendent J. F. M. Slade. The
Banking Board is comprised
of the governor, secretary of
state and state treasurer. -'
Slade had rejected Inland
Empire's petition saying that
the law stipulates granting a
franchise to the first applicant
who is qualified. Slade also
felt, that Pendleton couldn't
support four ,banks. Pendle
ton branches already have
been established by the U.S.
National and First' National
Bank of Oregon.
Inland Empire officials had
charged Slade with being un
reasonable and arbitrary, but
the Board found Slade in ac
cordance with the law.

Hillsboro - (UPD - Two sus
pects were in the Washington
county jail today following 'an
attempted burglary at Al's
Garage in Aloha. One person
was caught in the garage and
another was picked up in
Portland. ,

rived on the scene as new
tires were feeing taken from
the garage. Richard Lee
Green, 23, Portland, surrend
ered but his companion fled.
Officers said the second
suspect, Thomas Marlin, 21,
Portland, was arrested after
Portland police staked out his
home. Green was arrested
about 3:45 a.m. and Marlin
about 5 a.m.
The sheriff's office said it
would ask the district attor
ney to charge both men with
first degree burglary and Mar
lin also with larceny of an
auto.

a block from the Home Bank
and very noticeable in her
green skirt. .
Mrs. Quinn had $439 in her
pocketbook, almost the same
amount believed given tier at
the bank. -
She was arrested; arraigned
and held in lieu of $5,000
bond on charges of bank rob
Tillamook Mill
Damaged by Fire
Tillamook - (UPD - A fire of
undetermined origin r a z e d
the sawmill at the Beuhner
Lumber Co., plant late Wed
nesday. Damage was esti
mated at $150,000 by a plant
official.
The amount included equip
ment and lumber in the plant
building as well at the struc
ture. It was the second fire this
year, at the company, plant
sortie six blocks from down
town Tillamook. A blaze in
May destroyed a planer mill
and caused several thousand
dollars damage.
About 100 men were em
ployed in the sawmill.
