Reservations for
Pioneer Society
May Be Made
Reservations for the dinner
to be served at the annual
reunion of the Southern Ore-
gon Pioneer society must be
made by Monday, Oct. 19, of
ficers stressed today.
The society will hold its
annual reunion Thursday,
. Oct. 22, in the American Le
gion hall, Winburn way, Ash
, land. Registration of mem
bers will begin at 10:30 a.m.
followed by a program of
music, a historical address
and other items of interest
concerning pioneer history. A
sfcort business meeting imme
diately following the dinner
will close the reunion.
The ham dinner will be
served at 12 noon in the Wom
en's Civic club house next to
the Legion hall. Reservations
may be made by calling Mrs.

Old Organization
The society is one of the
oldest organizations in the
valley. According to early
records kept in the museum
the first meeting was held
Nov. 18, 1876. John Ross was
elected president; William
Hoffman, secretary; and U. S.
Hayden, treasurer. For 83
years the annual meetings
have alternated between Jack
sonville and Ashland.
The present membership
consists of all persons whose
ancestors arrived in Oregon
before or during the year
1860. Any person connected
with a pioneer family of the
dates mentioned may join the
a society and attend the re
unions. Dues or assessments
are not required. A charge
will be made for the dinner.
