League Meeting
A new proposed model city
ordinance for transportation
. and storage of explosives will
be one of the subjects at the
annual meeting of the League
. of Oregon Cities Oct. 18 to
! Oct. 21 in Portland, according
, to the agenda. All of Med
ford's department heads plan
to attend.
- The model ordinance was
developed following requests
of several Oregor cities after
9 the Roseburg disaster. Some
: of the cities indicated they
" had adopted a suggested ordi
nance of the National Fire
Protection association but do
not consider it entirely ade
quate. ;
The league office has also
developed a suggested ordi
0 nance for cities to establish a
civil service system for fire
; men. A law enacted by the
1959 state legislature requires

1816 Rocker
2 Jacksonville - A small hick
ory rocker, handmade in 1816,
was among Items received last
month by the Jacksonville mu-.
seum.
o ,The rocker was taken by
covered wagon from Virginia
to Sweetwater, Tex., by John
Fine, and was brought to Orer
gon in 1901 by his grand
daughter, Mrs. Mary Hill
Dunn, Ashland.
; The chair and a diary by
Mrs. Dunn, along with other
articles, were donated by Mrs.
Mary Cook, Eugene, daughter
of Mrs. Ottie Dunn Caldwell,
granddaughter of Mrs. Dunn
and great-great-granddaughter
of John Fine.

during September was 4,103,
an increase of 577 over the
same month last year: Visitors
came from 40 states and six
foreign countries. Boy Scout
troop 44 from Yoncalla also
toured the museum last

Sheriffs deputies Friday
were investigating Thursday
night break and entries at
Butte Falls tavern and Butte

They said that a ' gix-pack
carton of beer, $60 in nickels
and a wrecking bar wer
taken from the tavern and. a
12 gauge shotgun, $20 in
stamp and $60 in cash from
the store.
