The furniture in Miami's new
air terminal is as popular as
its jet planes.
"Everyone who sees the
furniture gets sort of goggle-
eyed," said Frank Fitzgerald,
chief engineer for the alumi
num firm (Adams Engineer
ing Co.) which produced it.
Travelers have ordered it
for their homes, and the com
pany plans to offer it to ho
tels, motels, doctors and other
institutional buyers.
Chairs are gold anodized
aluminum, couches are uphol
stered in turquoise, orange
and "maple sugar" colored
plastic. No welding joints are
noticeable. The makers claim
the furniture will last just as
long as those old wooden
benches travelers once sat on

During summer days I hear
from many women (never
men) who complain bitterly
about air
con ditioners.
They hate to
come into a
cool room.
Some will
then start
coughing and
will fear they
will catch
cold. Curious-

have this type of distress in
winter, when they go out of
a warm house into a tempera
ture of .i perhaps .10 below
zero, borne are wornea oe
cause they don't see an open
window with a current of air
blowing in or out, and this
distresses them. Managers" of
offices tell me that some of
the women who work for
them demand that the air-conditioning
system be turned off
no matter what the other
workers in the place want.
Obviously, in a hot sum
mer,; air-conditioners aaa so
much to the comfort and effi
ciency of 99 out of 100 peo-:
pie, that the one unhappy
woman who hates cool air
probably had better try to get
accustomed to it. Usually, on
talking to her, one finds that
in many ways she is distress
ingly hypersensitive. She re
acts too vilently to many sti
muli. She may jump when
the telephone rings and she
may scream when she finds
that her husband has walked
silently into the room'. When
she . goes into - a restaurant

sooner sits down at" a table
than she gets upset by a draft
on the back of her neck. The
unhappy husband doesn't feel
it but he has to get up and
move. At the next table, she
may be distressed over smells
from the kitchen. The hus
band doesn't notice them, but,
again, he has to move. At the
next table, she is bothered by
the noisy talking of someone
a couple of tables away. So,
again, they have to move.
Then, perhaps, the woman's
joints begin to ache or she
gets a migrainous sick head-,
ache or a stomach ache. Why?
Because she feels a storm is
approaching 100 miles away.
In a dining-car such a woman
cannot sit riding backward.
Curiously, one practically nev
er finds a man who complains
of similar hypersensitive
nesses. There are men who, I
think, are sensitive enough to
be ; distressed at times, but
they do not say anything
about it.
Incidentally, I think one of
the finest things a man or
woman can do in this world
is never mention his or ner
discomforts of any kind ex
cept to a physician. For
years, I used to go on camp
ing trips into the high moun
tains of the West. Often at
high altitudes I was very
cold; -sometimes it was rain
ing, and we were soaked
through; sometimes, when the
pack-train with our food was
late in arriving, we were hun
gry, and all of us who had
walked 20 miles that day
were tired; but ino one ever
mentioned these things.

Dillon Warns

Formosa Attack

retary of State Douglas Dil
lon bluntly warned the Chi
nese Communists Wednesday
that an attack on Formosa
would "likely" start a world
nuclear conflict.
Dillon issued the warning
in a major speech in which
he also read a message from
President Eisenhower calling
for "constant vigilance" in the
Far East to preserve peace.
Dillon spoke before the Far
East-American Council of
Commerce and Industry.
No Agreement Move
'In a bitter attack on Com
munist China, he said the Pei-
ping regime has shown "ab
solutely no disposition to
make the slightest move- to
ward an agreement on a cease
fire in the Formosa Straits or
a renunciation of force." v.
Dillon noted Soviet Pre
mier N i k i t a Khrushchev's
pledge to settle international
problems by peaceful means
and warned that the Kremlin
must "share responsibility for
Peiping's actions."
"We firmly reject attempts
by Communist leaders," the
