Jess Munyon was hurt in
practice Monday afternoon
and is laid up in the hospital
with torn cartilage. Munyon,
the top reserve linebacker,
will be gone for the duration
of the season.

Loses McCalvy
Central Point Crater high
freshman football prospects
received a blow yesterday
when right half Joe McCalvy,
one of the Comef s best run
ning backs suffered a broken
arm. .
Coach Bill Piche said that
McCalvy's forearm was brok
en in two places. He was
taken to Rogue Valley Me
morial -Hospital where he
stayed overnight
In addition to playing at
right half, McCalvy was a
reserve at fullback and knew
the other backfield positions.
Piche said that he and coach
Don Miller likely would bring
up Neil Rivenberger or Don
Twiddell for right half. Other
backfield spots are filed by
Gary Rosenberger, Mike
Glines and Gard Wald.
The Comets entertain South
Grants Pass on Friday.

Youth Injured in
Two-Car Accident
Jerry Reese Hemmingway,
18, of Cottage Court, Phoenix,
suffered, a minor cut on his
head .in i two-car collision
last night on the South Pa
cific highway, a half mile
north of Phoenix, state police
said.
Cars driven by Hemming
way and William Joseph II-
lingworth, 17, of 231 West
Glenwood rd., Medford, were
involved, police said. Illing
worth stopped to make a left
turn, and Hemmingway was
unable to stop, striking ; the
rear end of Dlingworth's car,
they "said. . '
Hemmingway-was cited for
violation of basic rule.

Jerry Jerome
Retires From
Timer Position
E. C. (Jerry) Jerome, time
keeper at Medford high home
football games for 40 years,
has retired from that duty.
Jerome said yesterday, "I'm
just going to sit r up in the
grandstand and enjoy the
games."
The longtime timekeeper
began his service in 1919 and
ended it following the Orland
game this year.. There have
been 12 head football coaches
at Medford high during his
tenure. Jerome, in an inter
view last year, listed the 1928
team of coach Prink Callison,
mythical state champion, the
greatest in Medford history.
Receives Sweater ,
In 1943 Jerome received a
lettermen's sweater with 25
stripes on the sleeve, indicat
ing bis 25th season as time
keeper. Later stripes have
been added to the right sleeve.
Just before retirement from
business, Jerome was with ra
dio station KMED. He once
had the Texas company gaso
line agency here. He was in
the tire business at one time
and was an. assistant manager
for Standard Oil company,
After first coming here, Je
rome worked for Prospect
Contracting company, which
built the first dam on Rogue
river and then was associated
with. Condon Light and Pow
er company which became
California Oregon Power com
pany. Jerome still has the watch
and gun he used as timer back
in 1919. For many years, he
performed his duties right on
the field. In later years he op
erated the clock from the
press box.

Herman just, why she was
running an unregistered nur
sery. Mrs. Herman explained
that the six children all un
der age six scampering
about the house were all her's.
