    Anti-lniegration
Rally Slated at
Pine Bluff, Ark.
Pine Bluff, Ark. - (UPD - Se
gregationist leaders of Pine
Bluff planned a mass anti
integration rally tonight but
the scheduled main speaker
won't show up.
Rep. John Bell Williams of
Mississippi, who has spoken
at several racist rallies since
color mixing troubles hit Ark
ansas schools, would only say
that "prior commitments"
kept him from addressing the
rally. He informed the spon
soring citizens' council late
Thursday that he would not
be able to show up.
Gov. Orval E. Faubus also
had been asked to speak at
the rally and, also pleaded
"prior commitment."
Wants to 'Dispel Apathy'
The mass gathering is set
for 75,500 seat Hestand sta
dium, a short distance away
from intergration - threatened
Dollarway school. It is
planned as an "education"
rally by the citizens' council.
"The reason for this rally
is to draw people's attention
to what they are up against
at the Dollarway school," L.
D. Poynter said. Poynter, 66,
is president of the Arkansas
Association of Citizens Coun
cils. "We want to dispel apathy
and arouse interest in this

New York -flIPD-There's still
plenty of life left in the old

However, it adds, there is
"plenty" in the news to cause
both stock market traders and
investors to pause. But while
nobody knows how far the
correction will go, and cau
tion is advised, "we see no
reason to alter our long-term
view of the market - upward!"

particularly in the event of
any general market decline.
However, it says the long

Administration
Said Trying To
Brainwash Nation
Unity House, Pa.-WPD-The
AFL-CIO today accused the
Eisenhower administration of
trying to "brainwash" the na
tion into believing that calam
itous inflation is just around
the corner.
This is just camouflage to
disguise its efforts to return
to policies that brought eco
nomic disaster to America in
1929, the Executive Council
of the Federation said.
"These whipped-up anti-in
flation campaigns have not
only scared America out of
years of normal economic
growth," the council asserted,
"but they have brought on
repeated recessions including
the recent one from which we
have not yet recovered."
Half Truths Charged
The council charged that
administration spokesmen use
"half truths and often no
truth at all" to achieve their
aims.
It said there is a consider
able amount of slack in most
parts of the economy and per
sistent unemployment despite
the business recovery from
last year's recession.
These views were disclosed
in statements released today
after the close of the AFL-
CIO leaders' four-day session
at a union-run resort in the
Pocono mountains.
They also took a crack at
the Federal Reserve Board
on grounds that it has pushed
up interest rates in "blunder
buss" attempts to curb inflation.
Father of Three to
Have Sex Changed
London (UPD Alec Daw
son, 45-year-old garage me
chanic and father of three
children, said today he would
undergo a series of operations
that would change him into a
woman.
"When I come out of Guy's
Hospital in nine months'
time I shall have changed my
sex and my name," he said.
After that I shall make a
fresh start."
Dawson, proprietor of a ga
rage in Wootton, said his de
cision to change his sex meant
a clean break" with his fam
ily - wife Peg, 43, and his
three children, John, 21,
Stephen, 15, and Barbara, 8.
"I have always had femi
nine characteristics," Dawson
said. "Even as a youth, my
friends called me Alice. I
ought to have gone for treat
ment years ago, but I kept
putting it off for the sake of
my family.
Mental Test for
Boy in Stabbing
Of Bride Slated
New Salem State Park, 111.
-(UPD-A mental test was being
arranged today for the 13-year-old
son of a Michigan
minister who stabbed a bride
honey-mooning at this Abra
ham Lincoln shrine.
Police said Glen Sampson,
son of the Rev. Orval Samp
son of the Congregational
Church of Hart, Mich., showed
no remorse over the attack on
Mrs. Bruce Brainard, 25, of
Hamden, Conn.
No Explanation
"He acts like he hasn't got
a worry in the world," police
said. "He isn't the least con
cerned." Police said the boy offered
no explanation for the attack.
State's Attorney John Gros
boll said Glen would undergo
a psychiatric examination at
Godfrey, 111., to determine if
he should be charged with as
sault with a deadly weapon.
Grosboll said delinquency
charges were certain to be
filed against him.
Glen stole into a bathhouse
Thursday morning and
grabbed Mrs. Brainard from
behind. He clamped one hand
over her mouth to stifle her
screams and with the other
drove a six-inch steak knife
into her chest.
Youth 'Giggling'
Mrs. Brainard, bleeding
profusely, slumped to the
floor as the boy ran from the
bathhouse. She said he was
"giggling" as he made his
escape.
A passerby heard the worn
an's screams and found her
lying on the floor. She was
taken to a nearby doctor who
said the wound was not
serious, although the knife
came within a half-inch of her
heart.

Washington -(UPI - An at
tempt to launch a full-scale
model of a manned satellite
at Wallops Island, Va., failed
today when a test rocket fired
prematurely.
The research motor was ig
nited for a controlled burn
ing test when it exploded.
It was not a development mo
tor for the Army's Nike-Zeus
program as was first believed
to be the case.
Officials of the National
Aeronautics and Space Ad
ministration said the escape
rocket, mounted above the
capsule, ignited premately.
The capsule was lofted into
the Atlantic surf off NASA's
Wallops Island Test Station.
The plan had been to
launch the capsule with a
"little Joe" rocket booster
specially developed for the
Mercury research- program.
The one-stage booster, power
ed with eight rockets, devel
ops a total thrust of 220,000
pounds.
