-Mr . Burris. the son of Al
bert and Pauline Burris', was
born August 1, 1888, in Platts
mouth, Nebr. He was married
in 1914 to Frances Piette. He
came to southern Oregon in
1950 as a retired safety engi
neer.

ters, Mary, Chicago, 111., and
Frances, Minneapolis, Minn.

FEW SWISS JOBLESS
Bern, Switzerland -(UPD-The
Federal Labor Office said to
day there were only 760 job
less persons in this country of
5,300,000 as of July 31. The
figure was an all-time low in
unemployment, beating the
previous low of 960 in July,
1957, the agency said.

States than in all of the other
countries of the world com
bined and the number is grow

Mrs. Cora Mae Ball, 72, of
route 1, box 82, Gold Hill,
died at her home Wednesday
evening. Funeral services will
be announced by Perl Funeral
home.
Friday at 3 p.m. The Rev.
John Roelfs of the Communi
ty church, Sams Valley, will
officiate. Committal will be
in Central Point cemetery.
Mrs. Lewis was born Jan.
8, 1874, in Tehama county,
California, and on October 26,
1897, in Jacksonville she
married Robert H. Lewis,
who preceded her in death.
She moved to the valley in
1877 with her parents, the
late Thomas and Melissa New
man. She had spent the past
42 years in Medford. Mrs.
Lewis was a member , of the
First Baptist church.
Surviving are four daugh-
ters, Mrs. Ralph Raymond
and Mrs. Chester Merriman,
both of Medford, Mrs. Edith
Weigant of Eugene and Mrs.
Maurice Tedrow of Vancou
ver; one son, Harvey Morgan,
of Trail; one brother, Robert
Newman, of Portland; one
sister, Mrs. Leonard Burdahl,
of Eagle Point; six grandchil
dren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chance was born in
Canby, Minn., March. 21,
1925, and had been a resident
of Medford for 11 months.

Calif.; one sister, Marie Jane

Ashland - David Sherman
Powell, 85, died Aug. 11 m
Merlin. He was born Feb. 15,
1874, in Osceola, Mo., and as
an infant traveled to Oregon
with his parents.
He has been in failing
health for the past year. His
wife, Lillie, 'died during
World War II and his only
son, Alden, died several years
ago in Ashland. 4

Funeral services for Oran
(Bert) Egbert Hukill, 63, who
died Sunday, will be held in
the Conger-Morris Funeral
home Saturday at 11 a.m. The
Rev. Earl Best of the Ruch
Community church will offi
ciate. Committal ' will be in
Phoenix cemetery.
Mr. nuKiii was born in
Phoenix, Ore., on Dec. 9,
1895. He was the son of
Charles Hukill, who came to
this valley in the early 1880's
and Almeda Woody, who was
born here in the valley. On
Feb. 28, 1927, at Grants Pass
he married Lillian Maples-
den, who survives.
Mr. Hukill served in' the
Navy during World War I
and was a member of the Up
per Applegate Grange; Ore
gon Cattlemen's association;
Veterans of World War I; Vet
erans of Foreign Wars and
the Military Order of the
booties. Also a lifetime mem
ber of Disabled American
Veterans and the Last Man's
club. r
Surviving, besides his wife,
are live brothers, i Henry
Hukill and James Hukill of
Medford, Lloyd Pitts of En-
tiat, Wash., Carl Pitts of Red
wood City and Harry Pitts of
Medford, and one sister, Mrs.
Glen Hale of Eagle Point.
Honorary pallbearers will
