Wall Street experts believe
that easily will be attained.
The GM total would com
pare with $334,514,226 or
$1.17 a share in the first half
of 1958.
If GM attains this figure the
five companies will show one
billion net against $321,434,
782 for the first half last year,
a rise of 208 per cent.
1959 Sales Way Up
General Motors first half
sales are estimated at $6,599,
000,000, against $5,031,261,-
000 last year. The four com
panies reporting to date had
a sales aggregate of $5,190,
560,000 for the first half,
against $3,372,988,000 in 1958.
Adding the General Motors
estimated salej, the total
would amount to $11,690,560,
000, against $8,404,249,000 in
1958, a rise of 39 per cent.
Ford's first half amounted
to $5.22 a share, against 29
cents in 1958. Chrysler's was
$6.65 a share, against a net
loss of $25.5 million. Ameri
can's works out at $4.80
against $1.73, Studebaker's is
$1.87 against a net loss of
$13.3 million.
For thi3 picture, American

The fourth quarter should

pected to lift net income for

producers to a billion dollars.

companies to report for the
half year - Ford, Chrysler,
American, and Studebaker
Packard amounted to $404,
861,075. This total compared
with a net loss of $13,079,484
In the first half of 1958.
To bring the net for the five
producers up to one billion
Motors earnings have been
worked out for the half year.
Its report made the other
day was for tne first nine
months of its fiscal year. That
period showed sales of $688,
787,216 and net income of
$49,599,962 or $8.36 a share.
These figures compared with
$358,518,676, $14,583,416 and
$2.61 a share for the 1958 pe
riod respectively.

a restaurant where there's no
waitress to flirt with or waiter
to yell at. In fact, you'll be
darn lonely if you don't bring
your own best gal or beau.
Designers for Industry, Inc.,
here have developed an all
electronic restaurant which
hasn't a waiter, chef, cook or
dishwasher in the place.
Gilbert Huiit, director of in
dustrial design for the com
pany, said diners will sit at a
semi-circular table and order
their meals simply by push
ing a button. Anyway from a
cup of coffee to a five-course
meal will appear out of the
wall.
For single diners, the table,
complete with food, dishes, sil
verware and all, will pop up
with a push of the thumb.
About the only person in the
restaurant will be the cash
ier," said Hunt. "And the set
up can be arranged so that
customers can pay electroni
cally by credit card."

button, about 250 frozen pre
cooked meals will be stored in
the kitchen: When the custo
mer orders, the meals are
moved into radar range and
within seconds are ready to
serve piping hot.

keep track of food supplies
and only one attendant will be

racks to feed 32 diners at one
-time.
