near Orinda, Calif., on his
motorcycle and fell into a
deep ravine. Kallenmeyn
was missing for about a day
before he was found.
Sergeant Develops
lion-Skid Glasses

at Walter Reed Army Medi
cal Center has invented
way to fit eyeglass frames to
the individual. He guarantees
that whether the wearer hops,
skips or jumps, the specs will
stay firmly in place.
Staff Sgt. Cecil T. Butler
has been making artificial
dentures for. 15 years at Walt
er Heed's Central Dental lab.
All these years he's been
thinking about the problem
of slipping glasses. So he per
fected non-skid specs.
Butler has a patent pend
ing on his invention, for, like
the man who invented a bet
ter mousetrap, he finds such
interested parties as optical
firms beating a path to his
door. '
The sergeant reasoned that
If individual fittings can do
wonders for dentures, the
same thing could be accom
plished with eyeglasses. He
makes snug, smooth-fitting
ear , pieces by . a custom
tailored mold from a plaster
cast impression of the area
behind a - glass-wearer's ear.
The special fitting takes only
about one hour and the ex
pense is very little since the
-cost of materials is neglible.
Butler reports that he has
gone swimming wearing his
snug-fitting glasses and did
not even have to readjust
them after diving.

Prints Own Works

aged when publishers reject
ed his manuscripts. He learn
ed the printing trade and pub
lished his books himself.
Holt says that printing has
now become as much a part
- of his life as writing and that
his books are finally being
: bought and read.
The elderly printer-writer
published his first book in
1955. It was entitled "Young
Pioneers," a story about hunt-
ing and camping aimed at Boy
: Scouts. Holt printed 300 copies
and sold 250 of them at $2.50
apiece. -
Two years later, he pub
lished a 16-page booklet about
Abraham Lincoln which still
is being sold by souvenir
shops near the Lincoln home
here.
He turned out his latest
book, "The Mysteries of Exist-
ence," several months ago. -In
113 pages, he explains his
ideas on life, death and life
after death.

Thefts from two homes on
Fair Oaks dr. were reported
to city police Tuesday. The
thefts are believed to have
occurred between 8 p jn. Sat
urday and 2 ajnL Sunday,
while a street dance, attended

sons, was in progress.

ed taken from the residence

plastic billfold containing $65
from his residence.
