Senate Committee
Votes Orphan Bill;
Mrs. Holt 'Thankful'
Washington-uM-TJie Senate
judiciary committee Monday
favorable reported a one-year
extension of the orphan im
migration bill, which had been
due to expire today.
If the committee report is
accepted by the full Senate,
the extension will mean a
continuance of such programs
as that of Harry A. Holtxof
Creswell, Ore., who has
brought more than 1,400
homeless Korean children to
foster Barents in the United
States.
Sen. Richard L. Neuberger
(D-Ore.) said no changes were
made in the present law by
the committee.
"While I had hoped for a
more permanent extension
with added safeguards, recent
hearings by the judiciary com
mittee have laid the ground
work for a permanent law
which I hope can be enacted

Creswell, Ore. - (DPD-Mrs.
Harry A. Holt said today,
"we're very thankful" when
informed that the Senate ju
diciary committee had extend
ed the law under which she
and her husband have operat
ed a Korean adoption pro
gram since 1955. - .
"We have had many, many
people praying for this," she
said. "Our trust is in the Lord,
not in human beings."
Holt in Korea
Holt is in Korea making
arrangements for the immi
gration of another 250 waifs,
most of them born of Korean
mothers and American serv
icemen. "We have been spending all
our energies getting these chil
dren adopted and getting them
visas before the law expired,"
Mrs. Holt said. "I believe all
of them now have visas and
we have four months to bring
them to this country whether
congress extends the law or
not.? ; '
She said she believed the
first group probably would ar
rive sometime in July.
Boys To Learn Language
Two of the eight Korean
children the Holts themselves
adopted in 1955 are back in
Korea with Holt. Mrs. Holt
said her husband, took Joe,
7, and Bob, 6V2 back to their
homeland to learn the Korean
language in the hope they
eventually may help with the
adoption project.
Mrs. Holt, three of her own
daughters, and seven Korean
children including a little vis
itor to the Holt , farm will
have their first look at . the
Centennial Exposition in Port
land Wednesday, ! '

Old Television Tube
Becomes Acquarium
Burlington,' Vt. (UPD Tele
vision shop foreman Armand
Caggiano has developed what
he calls a "tele-fishin" set, an
aquarium made from an old
24-inch television tube. -
"Took me six months to
figure out how to start," Cag
giano said, "but only about
four hours to do most of the
actual hard work."
He said the unusual fish
bowl has many advantages: It
magnifies the fish, and, illu
minated by a small electric
bulb, it has a "beautiful sil
very radiance." 5
Caggiano said he did a lot
of research before learning
how to cut the tube so it
wouldn't fall apart. "I found
I could de-vaccuum it by let
ting air in very slowly," he
said. '
"But it could be a dange-
j rous operation and I don't ad
vise any one to try it'uniess
he has expert advice."
