Coins Reported Taken

estimated $90 in change were
taken Saturday night or early

Crushed by Tree

ath Falls logger, was fatally
injured Monday afternoon
when he was crushed by a
falling tree near Buck Lake,
according to Coroner Martin
Adams.
Musshaven was an employee

Record Entries
Montague, Calif.-A record
high of 160 youngsters enter
ed events in the eighth an
nual Montague junior, rodeo
held here last week end.
Described as the "biggest
little rodeo in the West," the
event included 40 bull riders
and 29 bareback bronc riders.
Bonnie Rowe, 15-year-old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Ira Rowe of Montague, was
chosen all-around cowgirl. She
won first in the barrel race
and second in the girls' stake
race. Second all-around prize
went to Tom Russell, Pau
lina, Ore. He placed first in
bull riding and fourth in bare
back riding.
A two-mile parade was de
scribed as the longest in the
rodeo's history. It included
riding groups, single riders,
specialty acts and floats. Diane
Felhman was junior queen.

kiyou county's all-girl drill
team, took first place in the
riding groups and the Mon
tague Lancerettes rece' ad

Steel Talks Will
Resume Wednesday

first since a 15-day extension
of the union's original July 1
strike deadline was agreed
upon.
The four -man bargaining
teams were scheduled to meet
in two sessions daily instead
of the one session they have
held on most days since they
first started talking, May 11.
United Steelworkers of

have expressed little hope
that the 15-day contract ex
tension can avoid a strike of
the nation's 500,000- basic
steel workers.

Grass Fires-Two grass fires
were reported to the Medford
city fire department. One was
reported at 1:45 p.m. Monday
at Roberts rd. and Crater
Lake" ave. while the second
was, reported at 8:47 a.m. at
897 Olympic ave., where con
struction debris burning ignit
ed the grass. No damage was
reported at either location.

marshal tested and approved
the installation of two 4.000
gallon and one 6,000 gallon
underground storage tanks
for inflammable liquids Mon
day. He also investigated one
complaint of hazardous condi
tions in a residential district
and inspected four mercantile

Stocks Back Away
On Profit
New York (UPD Stocks fol
lowed Monday's pattern to
day, rising to a new high in
the industrial average and
then backing away from the
weight of profit taking.
The best gains appeared
outside the group used to cpm
pile the averages.
On an over-all basis, steels
were firm and electronic is
sues were strong. The drugs
had some good ,gainers and
oils were easier on balance.
Some of the tires met fairly
good support.
The big features of this
market were the specialties,
some of which rah up as much
as 3 or 4 points. Caterpillar
Tractor ran up' 4 at its high
and touched a new top for the
year. International Harvester
was up around 1 and at a new
high.

to the grand jury yesterday
in district court on charges of
burglary not in a dwelling.
Daily is being held in the
Jackson county jail on $1,500
bail. He is charged with break
ing and entering the Butte
Falls general store June 25. .
Joseph George Mattey, 54,
of 1234 Court st., and John
Lewis Cox, 41, of the Crater
hotel, are both Awaiting ac
tion now by the Jackson coun
ty grand jury. Cox was bound
over to the grand jury yester
day in district court ' and
Matey had been bound pre
viously. Both are charged
with robbery by force and vio
lence while not being armed
with a dangerous weapon.
Both waived preliminary
hearings.
The pair is charged with
taking $50 and personal prop
erty from Enino John May
field, Ashland, on June, 25.
Earl Alexander Lenore, 63,
transient, pleaded guilty in
district court yesterday to
charges of petty larceny and
was sentenced to 30 days in
the county jail and ordered to
pay $5 costs.
Lenore is charged with
taking a box of groceries.'an
Apostolic Faith Bible study
and a New Testament Bible
belonging to Arthur Winston
Moore on June 25.
Queen Contestants
To Meet Tonight ,
Jacksonville-Contestants in
the queens contest of the Gold
Rush Jubilee will meet with
jubilee officials tonight at
7:30 o'clock in the lobby of
the old U.S. Hotel in Jackson
ville, according to Dr. A. A.
Griffin, contest chairman.
Girls between the ages of
15 to 19 who are interested in
entering the contest but, who
do not have a sponsor may
also attend.
Dr. Griffin said that there is
still time for other communi
ties, business firms, organiza
tions or individuals to enter a
contestant. The contest will
be conducted during the
month of July and the winner
will b announced at ban
quet July 29 in Jacksonville.
Contestants will compete for
more than $600 in prizes, he
said.
