Tenant Rescued
In Portland Fire
Portland-UPB-A 58-year-old
man was saved by three fire
men in an early morning
Portland apartment house fire
Friday.
Earl Walker, of Portland,
was carried in a semi-consci
ous state from his flaming
room in the Edenholm Apart
ments.
Firemen Bob Hodges and
Jim Dietz entered the blazing
fourth-floor room and carried I
, the dazed occupant to the
window where he was carried
down an aerial ladder by fire
man Charles Gray.
Another fireman, Chester
Runyan fought heavy smoke
to alert tenants of the top
floor many of whom were
still in bed when the fire
broke out about 7 ajn.
All 46 tenants of the four-
story, frame building were
evacuated.
Walker was taken to a Port- j
land hospital suffering from J
third degree burns on hist
head, neck, arms, and feet.
Flames were confined to the
victim's room, which was gut
ted. Damage was estimated at
$3,000.
