Centennial Group
Plans Picnic,
Events in Phoenix

Phoenix - The Phoenix
Centennial committee last
night voted to hld a Centen
nial picnic for all Phoenix
residents and guests, a Cen
tennial Sunday in the local
churches, erect a covered
wagon welcome booth at the
south entrance to town, and
as! all area residents to dress
in Centennial costume on Sat
urday. Sunday, July 12, was set
for a town -wide Centennial
picnic to be held on the Phoe
nix Community club grounds.
The Phoenix Lions club and
Lady Lions are to ,be in
charge of games and the oth
er clubs will be in charge
charge of providing coffee
nd lemonade. Games would
include such events as sack
race, egg-on-spoon race, and
horseshoes.
, Church officials are to be
contacted to ask . that their
congregations appear in Cen
tennial dress on a Sunday to
- be agreed upon by the church
Phoenix women are asked
, to appear in Centennial dress
every Saturday during .the
summer while shopping,

For Rainier Man
Rainier, Ore. - (OPD - Search
was under way today for Wil
liam Linden Thompson, 54,
.reported missing from his
"home since Monday. , -
Sheriff Spencer Younce of
Columbia county said a search
would be made of Columbia
river sloughs near Thomp
son's home. A hunt in the
heavily wooded area back of
West Rainier Wednesday
failed to turn up a trace of
Thompson, a dairy farmer.
The sheriff said it was pos
sible Thompson suffered a
heart attack while : walking
through the wooded area or
that he may have fallen in
one of several sloughs in the
area.' - ' .
