W have three school-age
youngsters and they are all
doing about average work in
school. They -are good kids,
no special troubles except
that my wife keeps driving
them to do better. ,
The oldest boy recently
started to develop a stammer
ind I think it could be as a
result of my wife's making
too many demands on him. I
feel that she is making him

I don't see anything so ter
rible in being only average
in school. I was and I know
I'm happier in my life than
some of the guys who always
came out on top.

ers, told me that when I asked
her about it. The oldest boy,
particularly, has a very high
IQ-
I ask myself all the time
why my smart children some
how don't make out too well
at school. The oldest boy is
on the lazy side and a bit of
dreamer, but the other two
re very alert. They both say
they get very nervous before
test- and can't think well.
I would not drive the chil
dren if I weren't sure they
could do better. -It just riles
ma to see other kids get ahead
of them when I know it's not
necessary.

Educators agree that one of
the biggest factors in a child's
doing schoolwork that is up
to the peak of his ability is
the comfort of feeling com
pletely secure in the love of
his parents. When a parent
places too great a stress upon
achievement the child gets
the idea that he isn't loved
very much for himself.
This idea is no illusion ei
ther. A parent who wants his
child to be outstanding is
looking for some reflected
glory. It is on thing to want
child to bring out the best in
himself for the sake of his
own greatest happiness and
quite another to want to see
that child covered with glory.

boy indicates something more,
but it is most unfair to him to
set a rigid standard for his
performance. This boy may
be the kind of "dreamer" who
finds school too dull and rou
tine, but who will eventually
find something that captures
