Talks for Nurses
Cave Junction - Mrs. Floyd
Barrett, Grants Pass, past
vofrinnal vice nrpsiHent of Ore-
r ! u--, K n j i
Congress of Parent and . uuiwi
of the domiciliary at a meet
ing Tuesday of the Oregon
Nurses association, District 4,
It was held at, the nurses
quarters at the Domicilary.
She stressed the importance
of choosing the correct type
of reading for each individual
in a hospital and mentioned
that many reading aids are
available to patients in Veter
ans hospitals and in - larger
cities from public libraries.
These include projected books
for bed patients and page
turners for paralytic patients.
It was explained that neither
of these facilities are avail
abel at Camp White since the
hospital is maintained on a
small scale.
The speaker said that 5,000
books are now in the library
at Camp White, including all
the latest magazines and
newspapers.

Teacher associations in a joint
ceremony held Tuesday eve
ning in the high school gym
nasium
Heading the slate for the
high school is Mrs. Van John
son with Mrs. Robert Cherry,
vice president: Mrs. Monte
Heald, secretary; and S. S.
Castleberry, treasurer; How
ard Walton, teacher vice president.
Installed for Evergreen
grade school were Mrs. Clif
ford Fink, president; Mrs.
Robert Bottel, vice president;
Mrs. Charles Lemmon, secre
tary; Ralph Millard, treasurer.
Mrs. Louis Aller is presi
dent of - the Kerby grade
school, supported by Mrs.
Wayne Thornhill, vice presi
dent; Mrs. Don Fulk, secre
tary; Mrs. Vernon Johnson,
treasurer.
Leaders of the Selma school
are Ernest Hamilton, presi
dent; Mrs. David Grigsby, vice
president, Mrs. Ernest Harrul
ton, secretary and Mrs. M
Mikkleson, treasurer.
Mrs. Barrett was assisted
by Mrs. Ronald Prather, repre
senting all past presidents;
Mrs. Lester Frost, represent
ing all past vice presidents;
Mrs. Pat whitely, represent
ing all past secretaries; and
Mrs. Don Metcalf, represent
ing all past treasurers. Cor
sages were presented to all
the incoming officers.
Presentations were also
made of past presidents pins
to Mrs. Ronald Prather and
'Larry Cushing, retiring presi
dents of the Kerby and Ever
green grade schools, by Mrs.
Barrett. Mrs. Alton Sowell,
retiring high school president,
- pinned the president's badge
on Mrs. Van Johnson, who in
turn presented Mrs. Sowell
with her past president's pin.
Mrs. Prather presented
Kerby's traveling president's
pin to Mrs. Aller and Ernest
Hamilton made the past presi
dent's pin presentation to Don
Metcalf, Selma.
The controversial issue of
the proposed proposition to
hold future Valley PTA meet
ings jointly was discussed at
length. Better attendance, bet
ter programs and better civic
achievement were the favor
able aspects of the problems.
Opponents foresee problems
of legislation and the diffi
culties arising from individ
ual management in collective
meetings.
When the question of the
legality of the vote of the as
sembled group was raised, a
committee of the three in
- coming presidents was ap
pointed to draw up a work
able, plan which will be pre
sented to each organization at
the first meeting of the fall
session.
Ernest Hamilton, speaking
for the Selma school, de
clared Selma would not join
the combine as - the greater
distance members would have
to travel would prove incon
venient.
Miss Carmel White, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Harland
White, was awarded the local
high school PTA scholarship
of $140 toward her expenses
at the school of her choice.
-Entertainment was supplied
by Van Johnson s dance band.
This special group is drawn
from students in the regular
school band
Refreshments were served
in the home economics rooms
during the social hour at the
close of the meeting.
