Fla. Unfortunately, the missile exploded unintentionally
about 60 seconds after its launching. The Air Force had
hoped to recover its nose cone, some 500 miles from the
launching site.

Annexation Approved

Yreka - The town of Yreka
ballooned in area when resi
dents to the west and north
west voted 41 to 32 to enter
the city.
. The city council will com
plete the annexation by can
vassing the vote and accepting
the area.
The vote by 73 persons rep-
-wnted almost 80 per cent of
ii registered to vote in
area bounded by Lane st.

guess that the annexation will
add 25 per cent more area to
the city.
Mrs. Ruth L. Zoller, 52,
died May 10, in Siskiyou Gen
eral hospital after having been
admitted. She suffered a heart
attack in her home in the
Pines district.
Mrs. Zoller was born at
Spokane, Wash., July 15,
1906, and had lived here since
1953, coming from Shasta
county where she and Zoller
operated the Flume Creek inn.
Prior to that they lived in
Alameda.
For the past three years,
she had been day clerk at the
Yreka inn. She Was a mem
ber of the Greenhorn Grange
and the Lady Elks.
She is survived by her hus
band, Carl Zoller; two daugh
ters, Mrs. Lillie May McRae
of The Dalles and Mrs. Audrey
Le Mierex of Spokane; two
sons, Rod Landreth of Lodi
and Paul Landreth of Red
ding; two stepsons, Dudley F,
Zoller, former Siskiyou coun
ty agricultural .commissioner,
now of Las Vegas, and Bruce
D. Zoller of Atwater; two
brothers, R. H. and H. J.
Paddock, both of Spokane;
and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
May 13 in Gridner's Funeral
Chapel with the Rev. John S.
Martin of St. Mark's Episco
pal church officiating. Inter
ment was in the Evergreen
cemetery.
An Oak Knoll ranger sta
tion crew attempted to ex
tinguish a fire that destroyed
the home of Joe Freshour on
the Klamath river near the
Honolulu school recently.
The forest service said the
cause or the extent of loss
had not been determined.
Here for Mother's Day were
Mrs. Bessie Callahan and son,
the Rev. Paul Callahan and
his family, all of Gridley.
They visited Mrs. Callahan's
mother, Mrs. .Alice Norton, of
Yreka, who was 98 years old
Jan. 2.
Mrs. Norton, who lives with
her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Moore, is
still active. Her immediate
family also includes three
sons, Ernest Milbourn of Yre
ka, Hugh Norton of Berkeley,
Calif., and Frank Norton of
Denver, Colo.
June 20 has been set as the
date f o a reunion of the class
of 1934 of Yreka High school.
It will be held at the Yreka
Inn and will include a dinner-
dance starting at 7:30 p.m.
Of the 77 members of the
class, all but two have been
notified of the reunion! They
are Thomas Simms and Ber-
nice Will. Anyone having
knowledge of their where
abouts is asked to contact Mrs,
Vivian Truelove, Grenada.
Alton Anderson is the new
owners of Marlow's jewelry
on South Main st., Yreka. He
also owns Andy's Jewelry
store in Medford. ,
E. H. Marlow, the former
owner, will continue operating
the watch repair portion of
the business. Marlow has op
erated the local jewelry store
for the past HVz years.

The annual Girls' League
Mother's Tea was held May
12 in the old gym at the Yreka
High school. Due to the in
creased enrollment and lack
of facilities, the tea this year
was for mothers of the junior
and senior students only.
The style show was present
ed by the Home Economics
department. Exhibits by the
advanced shop classes were
displayed. All table decora
tions were made by the art
classes. The theme for this
year's tea was "Hawaiian hol
iday."
