forces over Robinson and
his Teleprompter corporation

Carmen was the star wit

session of the hearing, which
was adjourned until 2 p.m.

Rain, Cuts
Speedway
Practices
Indianapolis, Ind. -(UPD-Rain
washed out all practice at the
Indianapolis Speedway Wed
nesday, cheating rookies of
the final day in which they
could have completed driver s
tests for a crack at qualifica
tions this week end.
The 6 t).m. deadline cut
short tests started by fresh
men drivers Johnny Kay,
Johnny Moorhouse, who
had crashed at the speedway,
and Russ Congdon. They will
have to return in, 1960 to fuv
ish the final phases. This cur
tailment didn't help the driv
er shortage either.
Eight newcomers did beat
the deadline. One of them,
Bob Cortner, 32, Redlands,
Calif., died Tuesday shortly
after he was injured critically
in a crash at the speedway.
Two other rookies, Bob
Schroeder and Jim Packard,
who also cracked up. were
denied further driving at the
track until they have had
more experience.
With the final time trials
coming up Saturday and Sun
day, and 10 soots still open in
the 33-car field, speedway ob
servers predicted it will taKe
only 141 miles per hour to
make the lineup. Practice
time is running short, and
there are still 44 cars sitting
in gasoline alley waiting for
a chance to qualify.

Greene Wins (Fifth
For SoDSd
By DON BECKER
United Press International
Will the Sacramento Solons
crack? '
'Don't bet on it. They're a
team with a solid corps of
first flight minor league vet
erans who for the moment
are just a bit short of big
league ball. -
Typical is Carl Greene, who
at 28, has seen a lot of minor
league miles. He tossed - for
the Solons last year, had only
a 7-11 mark. But so far this
season, he's been a ball of
fire. Wednesday night he reg
istered his fifth straight win
of the season as he hurled
the Solons past Phoenix, 6-2.
It also was Sacramento's fifth
straight win and it enabled
the Solons to hold onto their
four and a half game lead
over second place San Diego.
Other action saw the
Padres whitewash Salt Lake
2-0, while Portland battled 15
innings with Seattle before it
finally won out, 5-4, on the
strength of an unearned run.
Greene gave up nine hits,
including solo homers by
Bob Speake and Al Steiglitz.
Two-run homers by Dick Phil
lips and Al Heist gave the
Solons enough scoreboard ma
terial for their victory.
Locke Hurls Three-Hitter
San Diego's Bobby Locke
tossed a snappy three-hitter
against Salt Lake. It was his
third win against three de
feats. Billy Moran socked his
second home run of the sea
son in the fifth inning and
Rudy Regalado hit a run-pro
ducing double in the eighth to
account for the other San
Diego run.
George Perez, who pitched
a no-run no-hitter against
Sacramento last week, was
charged with the loss and
was taken out in the eighth
inning. He gave up but four
hits. It was his second defeat
against one win.
The Vancouver Mounties
put on a power display in
the first inning then snoozed
their way through to a 6-3
win over Spokane. Joe Taylor,
Jim Pagliaroni and Ron Han
sen hit homers during a five
run Mounties outburst in the
opening stanza. Taylor's blow
was his eighth of the season.
Erv Palica, who had to have
help in the eighth inning, was
credited with the win for
Vancouver.
