. The Committee approved a
proposed amendment which
would give the Legislature
authority to rewrite Oregon's
constitution. This measure has
passed the house.
It also approved a House-
passed bill to license and reg
ulate fitters of hearing aids.
The Senate passed and
sent to the governor an ap
propriation of $196,934,000
for the State Highway Com
mission. The sum is about 20
per cent higher than the
amount for the present bien-
nium.
An expanded federal aid
program accounts for most of
the increase. In the 1957-59
biennium Oregon received
$66,850,000 in federal high
way aid.
