Bill Irregularity;
Reporter Barred
Salem-(UPD-Senate President
Walter Pearson (D-Portland)
today denied he held a secret
meeting in his office and that

Committee.
mere have been accusa
tions made in the press that
I held a secret meeting in my
ffice. The Senate provides
the president with a private
office to which he can invite
any one he chooses or 'bar
any one that he does not wish
to see," Pearson said.
Reporter Barges In
"It so happened that on the
day referred to I had a few
members of the Senate in my
office and one representative
of the press. During the dis
cussion an Oregonian reporter
barged into the office with
out knocking on the door and
I told him it was a private
gathering," he said.
"I learned afterwards that
my secretary had requested
him not to go into my office
and he ignored her. So far as
that reporter is concerned, he
is barred from my office for
the remainder of the session,"
Pearson declared.
Bills Often Referred
Answering the charge that
his handling of the higher
education budget containing
an 11 per cent salary increase
was irregular, Pearson said
that many times bills had
been referred to committees
which had not' considered
them previously.
The Senate State and Fed
eral Affairs Committee Mon
day reported out favorably
the bill calling for a $55 mil
lion higher education budget,
including about $40 million
from the general fund.

teeth in the jaw fragment
were worn down, exposing
the pulp inside, indicated con
