Forest Display
Planned at Fair
The Southern Oregon Con
servation and Tree Farm asso
ciation and the Medford Gun
club will combine their inter
ests in the Sportsfair this
week end.
The gun club will sponsor
a target range, and SOCTFA
will stimulate an outdoor at
mosphere in much the same
manner as they did last year.
Much comment was made
during the 1958 Crater Lions
Sportsfair on the "real" look
which was achieved with tree
samples and stuffed animals,
placed in such a manner
around the target range as to
give the effect of a forest
glade.
The Medford Gun club, or
ganized in 1906, promotes gen
eral good sportsmanship and
safety, plus a youth firearms
educational program. Some
members load their own am
munition, and a few even
make their own guns, accord
ing to Jim Bolton, spokesman
for the club.
Urged lo Compete
Visitors to the Sportsfair
are urged to compete for tar
get marksmanship with the
valley's own version of Annie
Oakley. Bolton also expressed
the hope that there would be
competition between the arch
ers and the pistol shooters.

Retriever Club To Have Exhibit
The Rogue Valley Retriever
club is planning an outdoor
exhibition of obedience and
performance at the Crater
Lions Sportsfair this . week
end.

than 70 members, said that
both mark falls and hidden
tests will be demonstrated. A
mark fall is one in which the
dog sees the object to be re
trieved. A hidden test is one
in which the dog has no pre
vious knowledge of the fall
and is guided to it by means

Law Prohibits Toxic Vapor Extinguishers
Toxic vaporizing liquid-type
fire extinguishers, including
carbon tetra chloride and
chlorobromomethane units,
have been removed from the
United States Coast Guard's
approved list -for use aboard
recreational Boats and certain
commercial vessels.
Approval for use of these
extinguishers by the Coast
Guard ended Dec. 6, 1958.
However, such extinguishers
manufactured prior to that
date, and in service at that
time, may be used by boat
owners until Jan. 1, 1962. Aft
er that date their use on most
small craft will be prohibited.
Similar changes will be
proposed in the spring of 1959
by the Merchant Marine
Council for tank vessels and
small ' boats carrying more
than six passengers for hire.

Neckties Are Bright Colored
Many of the new neckties
are flaunting bright Spring
like colors, bolder patterns
and lighter shades. Among the
top neckwear choices are
shantungs, in both bright and
dull silk surfaces. Stripes and
plaids predominate.
The under-knot pattern or
design is headed for quite a
comeback this season. These
