Carpenters Plan
To Consider Offer
Portland-UPD-The Portland
District Council of Carpen
ters was to meet soon, perhaps
today, to consider an offer
from employers designed to
head off a threatened April
1 strike that could .tie up
construction in Oregon and
southwest Washington.
Oregon State Council and
Southwest Washington Coun
cil officials said they would
recommend acceptance of the
employer proposal.
The Portland District and
the Pile Drivers group have
not taken action. Should one
of them strike construction
could be tied up if contractors
go through with the idea that
"a strike against one is a
strike against all."
The employer offer includ
ed a 53-cent package wage
boost over three years.
