Spider Webb wants a win
over Bobby Boyd in a tele
vised fight tonight because
"it should open the gates for
me for a title fight."
Webb, a 5 to 2 favorite for
the match, was bitter though
about the title prospects since
he' believed champion Sugar
Ray Robinson was "goofing
up the whole works."
"I don't think it's fair for
him to be playing off fights
with Archie Moore or Carmen
Basilio and making all the
rest of us hang around," he
said. "He's made everybody
spend two years waiting al
ready. I'm definitely a better
fighter now than I was then,
but how long can you go on
waiting."

San Juan, Puerto Rico -ffiPI
-The AFL-CIO announced to
day a new drive to organize
six million industrial workers
in the South and 14 million
white collar workers through
out the United States.
Organizing director John
Livingston said the new drive
would be in addition to plans
to charter a new Puerto Rican
truckdrivers' union to oppose
efforts by James R. Hoffa's
Teamsters Union to gain a
foothold in the island commonwealth.
Livingston and President
George Meany, who presided
at the nine-day executive
council meeting which ended
here Tuesday, belittled the
teamster drive to gain 12,000
Puerto Rican members, say
ing the teamsters had signed
up only about 200 members
since their Puerto Rican cam
paign opened here six weeks
ago.
In Miami, Hoffa predicted
his union would win hands
down in any race with the
AFL-CIO to organize Puerto
Rican workers. The teamsters
executive board voted Tues
day to spend "as much money
as is necessary" to organize a
Puerto Rican union.
Livingston said AFL-CIO
unions won 59 per cent of all
National Labor Relations
Board elections since the ri
val federations merged in De
cember, 1955 and that more
than one million new mem
bers had joined the union.
He said his organizing de
partment now has more re
quests for aid from affiliates
than at anytime since the mer
ger, especially in Louisiana,
Florida, Mississippi, Georgia,
Alabama, the Carolinas, Del
aware, Maryland and Virginia.

Meany's Reelection Assured
Meany, who will be 65 next
August, advised the council
at its final session that he had
no plans to retire. His reelec
tion for a third two-year term
was assured at the AFL-CIO
convention in September.
Meany acknowledged to re
porters that a dissension had
developed in the federation's
ranks during the winter meet
ing here, and he indicated he
rejected Auto Workers Presi
dent Walter Reuther's resig
nation as chairman of the key
economic committee to pre

federation.
Instead, Reuther was nam
