Hunt for New Markets Recalls
1929 Events Along Wall Street

one will agree with the ex
perts that this stock market
isn't of the
1929 variety.
It is a cash in
vestment mar
ket, while that
one was a
ipecu lative
market on
shoe- string
credit. But ev
ery so often
things come
along to make the situation
look like 1929. If it isn't the
market, it's the people who
make the market.
Back in 1929, when the big
board had risen sensationally
for that time, new stock mar
kets were being brought out,
and traders sought out invest
ments abroad.
A start already has been
made in new markets with
the New York Mercantile Ex
change authorizing stock trad
ing. That market which now
handles mostly potatoes and

He predicts multi-million
share days in Toronto and
Montreal long before summer.

now expect the lower-priced
issues to do likewise. And this
is one case where wishing, can
make it so.
"That means more and more
traders are already looking
northward to Cansda where
the pennies abound."
For those who get shocked
when the Canadian dollar
spurts above the U.S. dollar,
it might be wise to avoid
reading the exchange table.

nadian stocks they have to
buv Canadian dollars. De
mand for these dollars makes
them rise. It's routine.
Drivers Licenses
Suspended Listed
Salem-The department of
motor vehicles has released
names of 481 drivers whose
licenses were ordered suspend
ed during the period begin
ning Jan. 19, and ending Jan.
23.
Length of suspension varies,
depending on charges involv
ed, recommendation of court,
discretionary action by the
department or requirements
of Oregon law. The depart
ment said some of the licenses
involving financial responsi
bility and court recommenda
tions may have been reinstat
ed after suspension was or
dered. The department warned
drivers that the penalty for
driving while suspended is a
jail sentence of no less than
two days and up to six
months, and there may be
imposed a fine up to $500.
Under licensing procedures,
this will also result in an
additional year of suspension.
