Try and Stop Me
-By BENNETT CERF-
A FRIEND OF Groucho Marx's once asked him to stop the
car. Tve got to find a Western Union office," he explained.
"I want to wire my fiancee."
"What's the matter?" in
traired Groucho. "Can't she
stand by herself?"
Groucho broke up a liter
ary banquet by toasting a
famous and cordially dis
liked author as "one man
who never let success go to
his head. He is unassuming,
unspoiled, as comfortable to
be with as an old shoe and
just about as interesting."
Advice to parents from
Berb Stein: When the sun is
shining, and there's a pleasant 1
breeze blowing, it's a crime to
let your children linger in the house watching TV. It's relatively
easy to make them stop. Just move the set outdoors!
Gypsy Rose Lee's summation of the career of a strip-tease artiste:
the more clobies she takes off, the more she can afford to put on.
