day caused small damage to
the audio-visual room in the
basement of Woodrow Wilson
Junior high school here.
- Only last Wednesday a fire
In the gymnasium caused
$15,000 damage and, accord
ing to Fire Marshal Lester
Barker, was the work of an
arsonist.
A burned match was found
In the audio-visual room un
der a cardboard sign which
had been ignited. The fire was
put out by Charles Stevens, a
custodian.
Barker revealed that dur
ing the holidays someone had
tried to set fire to the gym
door. He said wax paper cov
ered with lighter fluid was
found near the door.
Vice principal John Mene
fee also said that on or about
Dec. 17 someone had ignited
the stage curtain in the gym.
He said that a hole about 18
inches in diameter was found
on Dec. 18 burned in the cur
tain. School officials and mem
bers of the PTA were to meet
tonight to discuss fire safety
plans and fire precaution.
Graham Undergoes
Intensive Tests

tors scheduled a third day
of intensive tests today on ev
angelist Billy Graham, 40,
who has been advised to slow
down.
Physicians at the Mayo
Clinic diagnosed Graham's
recent left eye ailment Wed
nesday as a muscular reaction
to nervous tension. They re
ceived assurances of cooper
ation from friends of the gos
pel preacher.
Grady Wilson, tour manag
er and Graham's assistant,
aid the evangelist would
probably follow orders to
rest for a month before start
ing a planned crusade in Aus
tralia Feb. 15.
The crusade, originally
set for Feb. 8, was postponed
week when eye spasms and
head pains forced Graham to
cancel a speaking engage
ment and fly to Minnesota
from Dallas, Tex., last week.

The fifth grade sold the
most Christmas cards so they
got the ice cream treat. They
had another treat with the
return of Dwayne Hawkins,
who took a trip to Texas and
Oklahoma. He told about his
trip.
Many new library books
have been received for all the
grades.
Th esecond and third grade
room reports that Donna
Hawkins, who recently re
turned from a trip to Texas
and Oklahoma, brought back
some cotton balls and a red
mud-hornet's nest.
Mrs. Hubbel, our assistant
cook, has returned from her
trip to the Eastern states and
Washington. She visited her
sons and daughters. While she
was gone, Mrs. Marie Harper
assisted.

Jan. 9 the PTA had a pot
luck dinner followed by a
short meeting. The president,
Mrs. Ruth Smith, presided.
Robert G. Work reported that
our PE program was given a
high recommendation. The
PTA made plans for their an
nual chili feed which will be
Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m.
the feed will be followed by
a basketball game with Shady
Cove.
The fourth grade room
has made a fireplace like they
had in New Amsterdam dur
ing colonial days. The fire
place is made to look like
blue tile with Bible story pic
tures in the tile. The fireplace
shows Jonah and the whale,
Daniel and the lions, Moses
in the bullrushes, David and
Goliath, and Noah's Ark.
The first and second grade
room has two murals. One is j
about transportation and they !
think they will add space
ships next week by the looks
of things. The other mural is
about January, the winter
month.
