Springfield Man
Shot Accidentally
Springfield, Ore. TOPD Le
roy B. Bartlett, 62, of Spring
field, former city manager
here and in Montpelier, Vt.,
was killed Sunday night as
a 30-06 rifle he was taking
from his car accidentally dis
charged. -. : i
The bullet struck him in
the middle of the forehead,
police said. He was dead on
arrival at a Eugene hospital.
The accident, which occur
red about 8 p jn. was wit
nessed by a neighbor, Mrs.
Allen Jacobs, wife of a state
policeman. She said she was
washing dishes and noticed
Bartlett from her kitchen win
dow. He walked to his car,
there was a shot and he
slumped to the ground, she
said. .
The victim's wife, Faye,
said her husband had gone
hunting Sunday afternoon
and left his gun in his car
when he returned. Just be
fore 8 pjn., he went out to
get the rifle. The shot was
heard soon after he left the
house.
