stand on the problem of who

To Elect Famed
Washington - Sen. Richard
L. Neuberger of Oregon has
been chosen as an elector of
the Hall of Fame for Great
Americans by the senate of
New York university.
As an elector, he will be
one of a group of about 100
noted persons in the arts,
science, education and public
affairs who will select the
next Americans of outstand
ing achievement to be honor
ed posthumously with a statue
in the Hall of Fame. Other
electors include Historian
Allan Nevins, Supreme Court
Justice Felix Frankfurter,
The Rev. Harry Emerson Fos
dick. Columnist Walter Lipp
mann, and former President
Herbert Hoover.
The next election for places
in the Hall of Fame, located
on the campus of New York
university, will be in 1960.
Any American citizen who
made his home in the United
States and who has been dead
for 25 years or more, is
eligible for election to the na
tional shrine. Nominations
will be accepted from the
public starting next April 1.
The Hall of Fame was
founded in 1900 and now en
shrines 86 men and women
who made lasting impressions
on the history and culture of
the United States.
Two Men Rescued
From Sandy River
Portland-OJPB-Two Portland
men were rescued from icy
waters of the Sandy river
near here Saturday afternoon
after their boat overturned.
-They were Robert B. Betten
dorf, 33, and his brother,
Bernard Michael Eeteendorf,
22.
Their rescuers was Glenn E.
Otto, 34, of Troutdale. Otto
looked out the window of his
riverfront home and saw the
two men float by, clinging to
the side of their overturned
boat. He hastily set out in
his own boat and took the
pair aboard. They were re
ported in good condition.
