temporary sign not exceed

which it is located.
Non-illuminated sign designed
and erected for the sole purpose
of identifying and advertising an
undeveloped subdivision. Such a
sign may be installed after ap
proval Dy tne Planning commission
of the tentative plat of the subdiv
sion which it identifies but must
be removed not later than one year
after installation, unless the Plan
ning Commission, upon due amli-
cation prior to the termination of
the year, determines that the con
tinued maintenance of the sign is
not inconsistent with the purposes
of this ordinance, in which case
an extension for an additional year
may be granted. The sign shall
have an area not exceeding fifty
square teet, an over-ail dimension
not exceeding- ten feet and the ton
of the sign shall be not more than
fourteen feet above the general
surface of the ground. Not more
than one sign shall be erected in
each subdivision. All such signs
snan be subject to the same set
back requirements as are imposed
in the case of structures in Class
IA, Single Family Dwelling Dis
tricts.

CECILE D.-I am a married I
woman, mother of four chil
dren. My own mother died a
few months ago and my fa
ther came to live with us.
I never anticipated any
problems because we have a
big house and Dad has a nice
room all to himself. He works
on and off and is in fair
health, so things ought to go
along pretty smoothly with
us.
Well, the other day one of
my cousins came to call and
I learned from her that myJ
father had been going to her
with a Jong list of complaints
against me, my husband and
the children and the whole
setup in our household. I was
so furious that I said things
I shouldn't have and told
Dad to go elsewhere if he
didn't like it with me. I
wouldn't have minded if he
had told me these things to
my face.
Mr. L. R. I certainly will
look for a place of my own
because I realize now that
Cgcile never really wanted
me in her home in' the first
place.
I told her many times about
some of the things that were
bothering me and she never
paid any attention. I told her
that the kids make noise
right outside my door in the
morning when I want to sleep.
Sometimes I can't sleep all
night and I need that sleep
in the morning. Cecile told
the kids to be quieter, but
not in -a way that made them
pay any attention.
There have been dozens of
little things like that. I re
alize that I'm just an extra
burden in Cecile's home and
I have no right to special con
sideration, but I did think
would get a little respect
because of my age-nearly 74.
'
THE COUNCIL: If Cecile
realized all the positive phys
ical and mental benefit her
father derived from the heart-
to-heart complaining talk to
his neice, she might take a
somewhat more tolerant atti
tude.
Admittedly, her father did
wrong. But his most serious
mistake was in his selection
of a listener. It is not to his
discredit that he suffers, like
many widowed elderly per
sons, from a sense of being
unneeded and unwanted. Doc
tors would say that Mr. L.R.
did the healthy thing to
"talk his heart out." Such gab
fests relieve a lot of inner
tension.
It is Quite possible that
Cecile herself needs such a
gab fest with someone. We
suspect that she has quite a
bit of bottled up tensions over
conditions in her home. Even
under the best of circumstanc
es, elderly men and women
are often trying. Busy active
individuals like Cecile have
little inclination to cope with
the often demanding child
ishness of ageing parents. It
is likely that Cecile has been
building up some resentment
against having to deal with
her father.
Oh the other hand, it is
also likely that Cecile would
feel very guilty if she did
not provide a home for her
father. She must, therefore,
weigh one thing against an
other and make up her mind
to do the best with her de
cision.
If it is decided that Mr. L
R. remains with Cecile, she
should try to be more accept
ing of the job she has un
dertaken! Making a home for
an elderly person means more
than providing him with a
room. Some understanding
must be offered jvithout sub
mitting to the tendency of
the aged to use weakness as
a weapon to tyrannize.
