Include Discussions

statehood will set the theme
of Oregon's 1959 Great Deci
sions program for neighbor
hood "study groups" to discuss
state and world affairs. The
10-week program will start
Jan. 25.
The 1959 program has been
expended to , include ' two
weeks' discussion of Oregon's
historical development and fu
ture goals as a tie-in with the
Oregon Centennial, Mrs. Ma
bel Mack, assistant director of
the Oregon State college ex
tension service and state
chairman, has announced.
County "Great Decisions"
councils are now being formed
throughout - the state. They
will help organize and provide
study materials for neighbor
hood groups of 6 to 12. persons
to discuss the Oregon topics,
followed by eight-weeks' dis
cussion of key foreign policy

Public Opinion
FPA launched Great Deci
sions in several Oregon cities
in 1955, establishing Oregon
as "pilot state" in a program
aimed at building informed
public opinion on world af
fairs. The program has since
extended to 30 states and car
ries approval of more than
100 national non-governmental
organizations including
educational, professional, la
bor, agricultural, and civic
groups.
Oregon scored another
"first" in 1957 when Great
Decisions . was carried state
wide through Oregon State
college extension service in
cooperation with . the FPA,
the general extension division
of the state system of higher
education, the state depart-

were reported missing here
Wednesday when their 15
foot boat was found overturn
ed at the mouth of Whiskey
Creek, near the ocean.
Missing are Glenn Strait,
16, Oceanside, and 19-year-old

arts. The overturned boat was
spotted by Mrs. Ruth Reeds,
of Whiskey Creek road, out
side of Oceanside.
A search was started late
Wednesday afternoon but had
to be given up shortly after
