Social Calendar Filled
With Gay Holiday Parties
Holiday time is party time
in the Rogue valley. Dinners,
dances and cocktail parties
have filled the social calendar
both here and in Ashland,
and other events are planned
for the week between Christ
mas and New Year's day.
Last Sunday evening Mr.
and Mrs. C. A. Winetrout and
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pierce
were hosts for a dinner and
dance at Rogue Valley coun
try club. About 90 guests at
tended. The buffet dinner was serv
ed from a table centered with
pink carnations, holly and
sprigs of silvered greenery.
Mm. William Dawkim, Ashland, (at left) was given the
title "Quean of the Ball" at the annual Christmas holiday
charity ball of Medford Junior Service league held last
week end at Rogue Valley Country club. Mrs. uawKins
headdress, voted the most outstanding, was a small set of
deer antlers which she silvered and trimmed with tinsel
and other Christmas glitter. Mrs. Dawkins is shown here
with Mrs. Charles Mickelson, chairman of the event, who
wore a tall blue headdress to match her blue evening frock.
Mrs. Dawkins was gowned in white chiffon.

' Among the guests at the recent Christmas charity ball of
Medford Junior Service league were Mr. and Mrs. Murray
Gardiner. Mrs. Gardiner's towering headdress of while
plastic foam, silver beads and other glitter was her own
creation, and complimented her black taffeta evening gown
with top of white lace and rhinestones.

Miss Carolyn Hillyer,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.
R. Hillyer, 13 North Modoc
avenue, is visiting in the val
ley for the Christmas season.
A freshman at Oregon State
college, Miss Hillyer is a mem
ber of Delta Gamma women's
social fraternity.
Yesterday evening Dr. and
Mrs. Ralph Thompsen were
hosts for a cocktail party at
their home, 18 North Modoc
avenue. Guests called begin
ning at 5 o'clock. The rooms
of the home were arranged
with traditional holiday dec
orations.

Dr. and Mrs. B. A. Cope
given an annual holiday par
ty, and this year's event was
held last evening at their
home, 717 Roca avenue, Ash
land. Dr. Cope prepares tra
ditional Swedish glogg for his
guests, which yesterday num
bered about 150.
Also entertaining last eve
ning were Mr. and Mrs. R. B.
Thierolf, who invited guests
to their home, 91 Black Oak
drive, for cocktails. About 50
guests attended.
A holiday party was given
last evening by Dr. and Mrs.
Lee Mellish. They invited a
small group of neighbors and
other friends to their home,
117 Black Oak drive. Holiday
decorations in the Mellish
home include an all-pink
Christmas tree.
A number of annual parties
are being held at Rogue Val
ley Country club. December
18 students of high school and
junior high school age held a
platter party" at the club.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Lambert,
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Olson and
Mr. and Mrs. B. D. Mitchell
were chaperones for ihe
event.
Yesterday afternoon the an
nual Santa Claus party for
the small children was held at
the club. Planned for Satur
day, December 27, is the an
nual dinner dance for high
school seniors and colleee
students.
The traditional holiday open
Wobbes Honored
At Housewarmina
' Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wobbe
were honored with a surorise
housewarmina at their new
nome at 3476 Hollywood ave
nue December 6.
The event was given bv sev
eral other teachers at Roose
velt Elementary school where
Mr. wobbe is on the faculty.
Attending were Mr. and
Mrs. Gilbert Ellis, Mr. and
Mrs. Clifford McLean. Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Holmes, and
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Pope.

will honor Miss Sharon Blick-
enstaff, Bethel 14 queen; Miss

Molay; Miss Sylvia Lu Morris,
queen elect of Bethel 14; Miss
Lynda Knips, queen-elect of
Bethel 55 and Robert Pool,

The dance will be held Fri
day, December 26, at Rogue
Valley Country club.
Shirley Douglass
Guest at Party;
Rites Saturday
Miss Shirley Douglass, who
has been making her home in
Medford in recent months,
left last week for Portland.
Miss Douglass, a daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Adraen E. Doug
lass, Portland, and William
Patton, Medford, are to be
married Saturday, December
27, in Acreage Presbyterian
church in Portland.
Before her departure, Miss
Douglass was honored at a
party given "by three friends,
the Misses Sheila Schuer
mann, Mary Lou Henke and
Marjorie Simonsen. The four
young women have been mak
ing their home together at
1316 Queen Anne avenue, and
the informal event was held
there. About 20 guests of Miss
Douglass and Mr. Patton at
tended. Mr. Patton's mother, Mrs.
C. Rease Braley, Mr. Braley
and a large group of family
friends plan to be in Portland
for the wedding.

Couple In
Butte Falls
Eagle Point The wedding
of Mrs. Neva Gilbreath and
Irvin McKeen took place Fri
day, December 5, with the
Rev. Howard Simmons offi
ciating. The rites were held
at Butte , Falls Community
Bible church at eight o'clock
in the evening.
The bride was given in
marriage by her son, Richard
Wallace, Medford. Best man
and matron - of - honor were
Mr. and Mrs. Porter Allen.
The Misses Cindy and Carol
McKeen,' daughters of the
bridegroom, were bridesmaids
and flower girls were Carol
and Cheryl Smith. Jimmy
Walch carried the rings.
Ronda Haworth and Trudy
Walch lighted the candles and
John and George Minter and
Al Johnson were ushers.
Mrs. Frank Powell played
the wedding music and the
Rev. Gerald Smith of Reese
Creek church sang.
The reception was held in
the church. Mrs. R. O. Steph
enson, Medford, sister of the
bride, served punch and Mrs.
R. D. Chamberlain, Trail, a
cousin of the bride, poured
coffee. Mrs. Lester McFall
served the cake, which she
had made. Mrs. Richard Wal
lace, Medford, took charge of
the guest book and Mrs. El
bert Hefley, Mrs. Porter Al-1
len and Mrs. Gay Haworth
opened the wedding gifts.
About 150 guests were in
attendance at the wedding.
Among the guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Dwight Corsaut,
Turlock, Calif., brother - in -law
and sister of the bridegroom.

Mrs. Brian Mullen (at left) wore a billowing ball gown
of cream-colored silk for the recent Christmas charity ball
of Medford Junior Service league, and the butterfly in her
hair matched those on her gown. Mrs. Rodger Sterton's head
dress, a popcorn snowman, was made by her husband. The
snowman's face was of gum drops, he had a corn cob pipe
in his mouth and a little straw hat on the top of his head.
The artistic, unusual and imaginative headdresses worn for
the ball make it one of the most interesting as well as the
largest event of the holiday season in Medford.
Committee Aided
By New Members
Three new members are as
sisting the Medford committee
of the American Cancer soci
ety with its annual crusade
planning. Mrs. Thomas Bol
ton, Mrs. Darrell Miller, and
Mrs. Thomas Tinsley have
joined their efforts with those
of the committee, as the mem
bers plan the April educa
tional campaign.
At the December meeting,
pamphlets were readied for
distribution throughout Jack
son county, as the committee
members worked and planned
simultaneously. Recruitment
o f volunteer campaigners,
which was begun immediately
after the November meeting,
is progressing satisfactorily,
as reported by the campaign

Corvallis Henry F. Padg-
ham of Medford is one of 19
engineering students at Ore
gon State college picked for
membership in Tau Beta Pi,
national engineering honor
society.
Selection is based on out
standing scholarship, leader
ship in engineering school af
fairs, and promise of future
achievements in the engineer
ing field. The student, a sen
ior this year, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Padgham,
2707 Springbrook road.
Miss
Arthur A. Ekerson, whose
wedding is set for December
28, have been honored at a
number of recent parties. The
wedding is planned for First
Presbyterian c h ur c h at 6
o'clock in the evening.
Last evening Mr. and Mrs.
John S. Day and Mr. and Mrs.
Myers Jones were hosts for a
party which honored the
couple. About 20 guests were
invited to the Day home on
Gold Rey ranch, and the hon
ored couple received gifts for
their new home.
The Day's son, John P. Day,
will be Mr. Ekerson's best
man. The young man and Mrs.
Day arrived last week from
Seattle and will be here until
after the wedding.
Mrs. Fred Morlan and Mrs.
Raymond Wise gave a kitchen
shower for. Miss Nichols
Thursday at the Morlan home,
1625 Stratford way. Decora
tions were in red and white,
which will be the color theme
of the wedding. Twelve guests
were bidden to the party.
Miss Nicholas was honored
at another shower given by
Mrs. R. B. Montgomery at
her home, 514 North. Bartlett
street. The refreshment table
was centered with red and
white roses in a silver bowl
and white tapers in silver
candlesticks. The cake was
decorated with poinsettias.
Guests were women who
work with Miss Nicholas in
one of the departments of
Mann's store. Present were

Family Leaves
On Holiday Trip
Mr. and Mrs. William Wil
liams, 116 Black Oak drive,
Medford, and two daughters,
Laura and Marsha, will leave
the valley Tuesday for Los
Angeles where they will
spend the holidays. Traveling
with the family will be Miss
Sissel Forgner, foreign ex
change student from Norway,
who is making her home with
the Williams family.
The family will spend two
weeks in the Los Angeles
area visiting relatives and
showing the Norwegian visi
tor the points of interest.
They plan to return to Med
ford January 2 when Laura,
a junior at the University of
Oregon majoring in business
administration, will return to
Eugene.
