test held Thursday, reported

Don, a sophomore will rep
resent the Crater FFA at the
district contest to be held in
Phoenix High school in Janu
ary. David Foote, also of Crater
High school, placed second in
the contest. He spoke on the
production of hogs and use
of vitamin B-12. Denning
talked on the problem of de
creasing FFA membership.
Contest judges were Gene
Winters, Jackson county ex
tension agent and Bill Brew
ster, Sams Valley elementary
school principal.
Following the district con
test in Phoenix High school,
the first and second place
winners will enter the section
al contest to be held in Crater
High school in February- The
winner of that contest will be
entered in the competition
during the FFA state conven
tion in Corvallis, later going
to the regional and national

Regulus Missile in
Economy Drive

Navy's supersonic Regulus II
today joined two other mis
siles abandoned by the De
fence Department in the last
three weeks as an economy
measure.
The Navy announced
Thursday night it had can
celled production of the Regu
lus II guided missile lor an
estimated saving of $100 mil
lion. The Navy has invested
about S78 million in the proj
ect to date.
The Navy also announced
plans to eliminate 9,000 civl
lian jobs in cutbacks at 30
facilities in 17 states.
Prices, Wages Blamed
The reductions were sched
uled to take place mainly
over the next two years and
were attributed to a "general
reduction in the Navy estab
lishment" because of rising
prices, wages and procure
ment costs.
