Over 60 Christmas swags
were made by Mrs. John
Milburn and her garden club
committee last Friday at the
Masonic hall in Kerby. Many
of the decorations for the
swags had been made earlier
by other committees, so that
at the Friday session, the
assembly work was complet
ed and the swags were deliv
ered in time, for the week
end.
One swag was presented to
by the Garden club to the
county branch library. A me
morial wreath' was made for
the grave of Terry Miller,, for
mer Illinois Valley high
school student, a victim of
polio.
Last week the final plant

the Illinois Valley Garden
club, on the library grounds
took place. The landscape
planning and the planting
work were both under the
supervision of the club.

Sales Drop Here
County Savings Bonds sales
for November in Jackson
county totaled $66,942 as com
pared to $95,703 for Novem
ber of last year, County Chair
man Morris B. Leonard an
nounced here today.
Sales in the state for the
month amounted to $2,974,
403. A year ago they totaled
$2,285,129, the county chair
man continued.
Sales of E and H Savings
Bonds for the first 11 months
of 1958 were $34,064,109
throughout the state as com
pared with $34,256,353 for the
first 11 months of 1957.
"Each citizen who saves
through the purchase of Unit
ed States savings bondsadds
to his city's 'good business in
surance'," the county chair
man said. "He is helping to
keep his country strong and at
the same time is providing for
his own future security." '
A planned dinner and gift
exchange was held by the
HEU group at the recent
Christmas party held in the
home of Mrs. Wally Eichler.
During the afternoon, there
was a discussion on various
ideas for Christmas decora
tions in the home.
There will be no HEU
meeting in January.

Portland for observation last

Camp Adair next week to
start installing the complex
communications equipment at
the Air Force s SAGE project. .

Co., said the crew will put
into operation the elaborate
telephone system to be used
in the SAGE direction cen
ter. The direction center is
the heart of the SAGE proj
ect that uses electronic brains
in its air defense warning
system.
